View Full Version : Office server question again?
After deciding to get an IDE hard drive to replace, our old SCSI set, my question is will the IDE find it’s own drive path? We are going to keep the old SCSI along with the new IDE drive. We have A thru L for drive paths. Will the new IDE drive we plug in as a slave on the secondary IDE controller become M:\ automatically?
Server
Pentium 166
Windows NT 4.0
512 ram
Thanks

No.
Assuming it's not partitioned(if it is you can delete the partitions here too), Go to Start > Programs > Administrative Tools(Common) > Disk Administrator. It is similar to Disk Management in 2K, but there are a couple of differences. Right click on the drive and Create... It will prompt for the size of the new partition. Next, right click again on the drive and Assign Drive Letter, by means of a pull down box. Next, right click again and Commit Changes Now, it's not saved till this is done. Then, right click and Format, selecting NTFS if the partition is large since NT supports FAT16 and NTFS only. It'll be ready to run at this point, unless I've forgotten a step. Good luck.
OldGuy thanks for the bump. Xaotic thank you so much for your time.
