EEC vs non?

there is about a $50 difference at my local pc store over 512mb pc2700 EEC an non.. i have no clue what EEC is and why i want it or dont..

ecc is error correcting and used in servers. you do not need it. i dont think many non-server, if an mobos support it. there is also a performance hit involved i believe. 20-30% sounds about right.
 
Actually my question should be, would it be better to get 256mb pc2700 ECC registered now and add 256 more later or just get the 512mb pc2700 non ECC and not registered.
