I am getting ready to Unlock my XP 2000. Has anyone else unlock this one yet?

I have and epox 8k3a, if I unlock can I put it up to 15x in the BIOS?

Thanks

Welcome to the forums!

Generally, when we unlock cpu's, it is for the purpose of lowering the multiplier. We do this so that the FSB can be raised higher, because this is the bus speed for the entire computer and all its hardware, effectively overclocking everything. But if you want to raise the multi, don't let me stop you :p

can u raise the multi to 13x and higher i thought that 13 u couldnt becuase 13 requirs more modding to the cpu hmm i guess iwas wrong yea unlocking usually is to lower the multi so u can get a higher fsb but still have the same mhz as before

Yeah, I just ordered the Corb Thermaltake cooler to put on the VIA 333 Chipset (Right now 145FSB is not 100% stable). So I'm hoping to get the FSB to 150 (100% Stable) and raise the CPU from 12.5X to 14X (Im hoping this will help my Frames in SoF2). Not O/C'd the CPU is about 35 C (Air cooled) under load so hopefully my goals are within reason.

But I will play around with different settings (High FSB low X and vise-versa) and benchmark them and find a middle ground.

Thanks for the input

I highly recommend you first get your system stable at 145fsb and even at 150fsb if you have plans of raising the multiplier and keep the fsb the same.

Try increasing your core and memory voltages to gain stability.

Not that you asked:p , but when I am trying to find the best OC for a system, I do a couple tests:
First: with an unlocked cpu, leaving fsb at default, I'll raise the multi to see how high the chip will go, and NOT have bus problems influence things.
Second: drop the multi WAY down and see how high I can get the fsb to run stable.

After that I have a good idea of the MAX I can get out of each.
I try to end up with the fsb as high as possible with a decent multiplier. 174fsb and 10x on XP1700s is doing good for me right now.

I have only one pc overclocked with a higher multiplier- its on a kt133 chipset, which does NOT like lots of fsb.

my xp2000 agioa y runs at stock multi and maxes out at 144mhz fsb, no matter the voltage. My chip is 100% stable with over 3000 cycles of sisoft and 48 hours of burnin(not sisoft). Its running at 1.8volts. Anything above it is useless, voltage wise. Im running a ABIT KX7-333. koolance w/c with a cpu200 block. its the small koolance case, only reason i went with it is because of the small size and watercooling. Otherwise id of done it myself. But increasing the multi and the fsb together is extremely rare and would be highly unstable. Ill unlock my chip when i get around to stripping a fridge for parts to really cool the radiator. whats your cpu cooling?

well since u can get a 145 fsb and u have a kt 333 chipset then why dont u lower the multiplyer and raise the fsb i have myn set on 11 multi and the fsb on 172 11x172= 1900 thats the same mhz i would get if it was 12.5x152 so my system bus is greatly higher since i did that but its up to u im gann raise my multi to 13 and try 14 i havent done that before let ya know how it goes in a sec

what manufacture of board. Im running 3 hdds, one 40 gig, others 60 gig, a ti4600, an ata133 promise ata controller, and game theater xp and a intel 10/100. My ram is samsung 333mhz, 512mb of it. im runnin win2k, got ne hints besides dropping multi, which im gonna do later, for improving the fsb? what are your voltages?

Not sure if you were asking me, but: my XP1700s are both on Epox 8KHA+s, both volt-modded, 1 aircooled, 1 h2o.
I get 169 fsb with mem voltage maxed at 3.2v and core at 1.85v on both. The volt mods aren't getting me much right now because of temp issues (I hope!)

Neither of these chips WANTS to go over 1750 at all.....but I'm going to get 1.8ghz if I have to hook 12v into the cores:mad:

Basically, I'd say you are on the right track, though: if 145 is all you can see at default multi, you may not be able to get much more out of the cpu.....but with lower multi and higher fsb you can hit the same cpu speed and get everything else running faster too..
IF you are lucky:D

well im actually quite pleased with the overclock, my goal has been to hit 1.8ghz with an amd and ive done it, now, if only i can get a ride and get a freezer coil:D then ill unlock and raise the fsb to 166 or higher and use 1/5 pci dividers. it appears that 1.8 is the max for mine, not bad considering the xp series stopped at 2200, which is what im running at, so im quite pleased. i wonder how high my memory will go voltage wise, im hopping for the lowest possible timings.

1.8 is nice....:D

I just did a chiller system....and it was looking pretty good until one of the freezer lines cracked at a solder:eek:

I had a hard time getting to 1.7ghz until the volt mods- risky packing more juice in to the chip, but when you hit the wall.....and REALLY want to get past it;)

I've been running the ram in both for about 5 months with no trouble, and I have a couple other rigs that have been running ram at 2.9v for well over a year- 0 losses. You have better ram than mine so you SHOULD be able to do better at the same vots (or the same at less.)

One thing holding me back on the ram is that I am keeping the memory bus at full speed: I need the bandwidth for Seti@Home. Dropping to the 3/4 bus divisor on my mobo gets me higher fsb, but a big drop in memory bandwidth.

Unlock that thing and you should be able to get a little more out of the cpu, anyway, and a lot more out of the rest of the system

I read here there was some place selling a kit for like 11 bucks, im thinking about just getting that b/c i can't find the silver to connect the L1s anywhere, and I dont want to spend $15 bucks on a pen im going to use once.

Has anyone bought this kit (if you know the one Im talking about, i forgot the webpage)?

paint, some people have had no luck with the grease.
