okay s o my 68 year old grandomther who has never used a "puter" wanted one with voice recognition so she didnt hae to type her books and poem. So i decided to build her a system that would do that and anything else she ght figure out. I went to pricewatch and got: amd Duron 1ghz, Gigabyte 7vtx mobo, maxtor 40gig 5400rpm hdd w. 2mb cahe, ati radeon 32mb 7000. i added this to a case a had laying around, and took 256mb of Nanya pc2100 out of one of my other systems. I thought this would be great for grandma and i uld have fun playing unreal tournament when i was at her house. well i made the mistake of using a Volcano5 heatsink i had sitting around here. put the system together, applied radio shack thermal compound to the cpu and put the volc5 on. after checking the volcano THREE TIMES to make sure it was on good i put the case on. then i load win2k and have a little fun getting drivers to work for the onboard audio but anyway. take it to my grandmother's d (since she doesnt know what a mouse is yet) she lets it sit on the $30 wal mart computer desk she bought....ll the sk wasnt too sturdy and her floor is rotting out so the floor bounces. well now to the point....SOMEHOW i get up there tonight and it wont turn on....i pop the case and the heatsink is hanging from the socket!!! alarmed i check to make sure there is still paste on it and reset the sink. well now it wont even turn on POST or anything. I know the poor duron is toast but my question is, how far did the damage spread? could it have damaged my mobo or my other components?
I know most mobo's are supposed to shut off when the on-die sensor gets over a certain point, but was it enough? Im scared that since the case LED and powersupply fan wont even come on i have trashed a good mbo. any thoughts??????

abt the power supply not coming it it myght be a burnt out psu.
