Hey there,

There are a few different ways that you could go about doing this. One of the easiest ways to do it is to get yourself an etcher, handheld prefferably, and just etch in your own design. These things are cheap and can be found at most any hardware store... I got mine for $10.00 Canadian. The other method that you could use, and would look just as good... possibly better, would be to get yourself an acid etching kit from a craft store. These are a bit more expensive... $30.00 Canadian minimum for a decent amount and then you have to get your stencil, but overall the outcome is 100X better than using a handheld etcher!

Luck be with you on your mod!

i made my etching with spray i found at home depot. its actually called etched glass. ya gotta have a stencil for that as well, but for the stencil i printed my design on the contact paper and then cut it out real carefuly. it was a real complicated design and turned out great. ill try to edit this with the forum i had discussed the whole thing in.

Edit: The post about etching spray (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88950)

is it possible to etch an aluminum sheet to get a laser like finish? or maybe create fan grills by etching?

i dont believe thats possible. for etchign to eat metal it would have to be REAL strong and youd have to have like a glass stencil or something... and i doubt it would still be smooth.

you could bead blast it.. tape off the complete cover, draw out your design, cut it out with and Xacto and then with low pressure, bead blast the finish. I have done this to glass, plexi, and other material..

my 2 cents
