View Full Version : Ti4200: Held back by CPU?
I got a Gainward Geforce4 Ti4200. I have the core set to 270 and the mem to 555. My Cpu is a Tbird 1.33@1.45. When I run 3DMark 2001se I get a measly 8000(roughly) marks. I started getting artifacts when I set the memory to 560. I might be able to get the core higher. I've seen other people get higher scores than me with lower video clock speeds. Am I doing something wrong or is there something fluky?

SLOW CPU
I'M sure you using SDRAM
NO DDR no High Score..
Your score seems fine for your specs
It is known that the T-bird is capable of higher bandwidth than the xp. How hard are you pushing the processor? The vid card will respond nicely to bandwidth at any given cpu speed. Use sisoft to get highest bandwidth at highest processor speed. I know that at 1.84Ghz the vid card (ti4400) is still not the bottle neck but instead my processor/ram is. Any gains on the processing speed will increase my bandwidth and my 3d score as well. Heck, my gf3 ti200 broke 10,200 where it started to bottle neck on me. (maybe could get another hundred or so).
Move the GPU speed up if you can. Run just one test and keep tweaking it. You should see improvements (pretty good ones on the gpu).

I have aP41.7 ghz with a fsb of 100mhz.
I also have a GF4 Ti4400 with 512 megs DDR pc(2100).
My score is only 6900 with a fresh install!
I am really starting to despise Intel.

HAHA yeah, My cpu is probably a bit faster. My last benchmark I got 7931 3D Marks. *sigh*

You might do a little more research on Intel as I can tell you they are my bain over at madonion. I just cannot match the bandwidth with tweaks (at least not yet). I have to overcome bandwidth with raw horsepower and tweaking. This is tough when the gap is so large.:(
Even so 6900 is definately on the low side. 13,100 is enough to get the AMD 1600 to eleventh place in all processors, any os system at any speed.

A 1300MHz T-bird would match on par just fine with a TI4600 so the TI4200 would give at about 1100MHz.
Next generation GPUs will relie less on the CPU therefore removing the harsh bottleneck that once plagued our PCs.

This was my first visit to the boards, which ar great btw!:D
I popped over to the intel board and discovered soem things I can do to speed myself up.
I don't want to do the pin trick or add extra cooling but I still believe I can tweak some extra 3d points out of my system.
