View Full Version : Double Ducting Idea
I have an idea to "double duct" the heatsink. That is, have one duct bringing in fresh ambient temp air and the other duct collecting the exhaust of the heatsink and sending it out the back of the case. Seems like that would help keep both the CPU and the case temps down.
Building the collection system would be interesting but if done correctly it shouldn't restrict the airflow too much.
What do you guys think?

There are several HSFs with fans positioned on its sides. Those might be best for this purpose.

I've implements the first half of what you're thinking - I have a 92mm sunon feeding the 80mm on top of my swiftech from an air hole in the side of the case. It's kind of ghetto, since my duct was made from a cut up taco bell cup - but whatever works right. Hell, my cpu temps went down an average of 4-5 C after the mod.
If you positioned a shroud so that it took the air blowing through the hsf unit out to the rear hole in your case through a nice 80 or 92mm fan, than you'd probably shave another 2-3C atleast. The trick would be to make sure the fan pulling air out is powerful enough to make a nice wind tunnel effect most likely....

Good idea. Maybe something like the ZEN Radiator (http://www.overclockers.com/articles472/) . If only it performed a little better and didn't have mounting issues...
