I have heard a lot of people getting these neon light from wal-mart and other places. I though i would go get some of these from wal-mart and when i got it home i saw on the box that it says DO NOT OPERATE NEAR COMPUTERS. I have always heard to that neons produce a lot of interferance. has anyone encountered any problems using neons. I just thought i would get the opinion of everyone here in the forums before i stick 'em in my case. Thanks
I have neon in one case and CCFLs in the rest, and so far am not experiencing any EMI problems. However, if it is a cause for concern, pick up some ferrites and place them on the lead wires for the neon.

I have three neons running 24-7 in the front of my case.... they are however mounted on the outside of the metal so I don't really have them near or around hardware directly. The case shields mine. Honestly I do not believe they cause EMF problems. I think its a marketing gimmick to keep people from buying them and cutting them open and sending them back cause they F'ed up the wire job... who knows...

I love Neons. What's pretty cool is Black Lights. Since they give off UV Rays, putting in front of your water cooling resevoirs, it'll kill bacteria in your system(UV Rays destroys the RNA and DNA of microbes.)

ok, thanks. it looks like no1 has had problems with neons. However i might put some kind of metal mesh around them just to be safe.

UV is pretty harmful to almost any form of plastic. think of like how if a toy sand bucket that is normaly real bendable sits outside long enough it becomes faded and brittle. also, being a rock climbing we cant leave our gear outside or near UV lights because it degrades the gear and our ropes will start breaking and all. pvc is vulnerable as well, but i dont know if a standard 12v UV light will take it out too fast, esspecially with water runnin through it.

tygon is unaffected by uv and it is cool stuff to begin with, thats a good idea about the uv near the res so there is no bacteria GENIOUS

Thanks, madcow. Thats the only place I'd put the blacklights is near the resevoir, not shining on the tubing. They are now using this lights in humidifiers to kill the bacteria, and also in this air purifier from The Sharper Image (http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?pid=37143300&pcatid=1&catid=101), oh cool, heres another use for peltiers (http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productview.jhtml?pid=34878400&pcatid=1&catid=101)

tygon is completely unnafected by black lights so thats your best option when using neons or black lights. And it looks shiny under sunlight :)

There are some Black Light leds, will they have the same effect like the neon does on water??

Blacklight is blacklight, just don't buy the (lamp) bulbs. Timed it once, and it only takes 1 minute, 40 seconds for the lamp to get hot enought to boil and egg!!

You're thinking about the wrong range of the UV spectrum. No matter what you do a Black Light isn't going to give you a tan. It will mess with your retinas though...
