I'm fixing friends comp, and I can't get it to normal boot to win.
It starts in DOS, then win98 boot screen for 3 sec, and then DOS and C:/windows>
How can I get it to normal windows, I need to run it CD
it works in safe mode, but no CD support.
Thanks
Try to launch win - maybe it helps...
If not - I think you'll need a boot disk (it contains CD drivers, so if you boot from a bootdisk you'll be able to copy files from CD to HDD).
Hope this helps.

I can boot from boot floppy, but cd I heave wont run recovery program from DOS.
must get to Windows....
Maybe the prob is with your MSDOS.SYS file - it is (and must be) different on your HDD and boot floppy. If you started sys c: from your floppy, you have erased it with a new one, thus destroying an auto-boot-GUI option. Try replacing it with one I attached - hope this helps...
Sounds as if you have a serious hardware or driver conflict. Take out everything but the CPU, Vid, RAM, floppy, CD and HD, and see if it will boot up.

there is a hardware problem, it crashed ones, and when it trying to boot it give you modem/sound card #00040056 or something like that error, and stops @ C:/windows>
pull the modem/sound card out. See if it will boot.
If no, then leave the modem/sound card out and enter safe mode. Uninstall modem/sound card drivers.
Try to boot to windows again.
