View Full Version : Noobie need help on o/c duron 1.0ghz
HI to all and congrats for the great forum .
Now I am not new to the comp scene but i am a noobie at overclocking(drr), so maybe with your answers to my question you can help me.
I want to know what this babey can be clocked at. My bios supports all adjustments and is also adjustable on mother board
I am running an :
duron 1.0ghz
Jetway v266 mobo
256mb pc133 (running at 100mhz fsb)
Seagate 60g ata100 hd
Gforce 2 ti
creative 5.1 s/c
v/core is 1.78v
sys temp - 34c
cpu temp - 34.5c
My system had been on for 4 hours while I have been on the net
Thanks people

well, a 1 gig duron should be able to do about 1200 at 1.85 volts.
Check the cpu database. some guys have the 1 gig duron running a lot faster than that using a voltage mod.

I got a 1 ghz Duron (morgan core) running at 1.33 ghz with only +0.025 volts. But I was lucky to get a good stepping. First thing you want to do is unlock you CPU. Here's a link (http://www4.tomshardware.com/column/01q4/011124/index.html) that'll show you how's it done on a Athlon XP. it's the same for the duron. You just need to bridge the L1 bridge using a conductive material, #2 pencil works fine. After that you can experiment with different FSB and mulitplier setting to see how far your CPU will go. Try dropping your multiplier ratio down and raising your FSB (Front Side Bus) up. After you reach the highest FSB you can, you should than begin to raise your multiplier up. You will also want some good cooling on your CPU as well.
Oh yeah, overclocking your CPU will void any warrentee you have on it, and you run a chance at killing it along with other components. Do at your own risk

Also, you need to make sure you have good cooling on your CPU (like an AX-7 or a Swiftech MCX-462) - the cooler you can keep your chip, the higher it'll go (well, up to a point that is). You also want to make sure that you have a decent PSU 'cause the DuronXP's are power suckers, just like their older brothers.
I've got my morgan 1.0 up to 1400, with a bit more than 1.85v (my mb pushes the max upper voltage a bit higher than the normal 1.85v). However, my system is severely power strapped b/c of too small a PSU. I'm hoping that with a PSU upgrade, i'll be able to push 1500+ Mhz...

I just hope you got a morgan core instead of the old spitfire. The old spitfire core won't do much more than 1.0GHz. A spitfire is rectangular and there are four L1 bridges. A morgan core should do 1.2 without trouble. It is almost square and there are 5 L1 bridges. If you have the morgan, you should be able to overclock to at least 1.2. If you have the spitfire, you may not reach 1.1

I have had my Duron 1GHZ (morgan) running@175fsb so far but I only have the one mb for now and I run my XP1700 in it. I just ran it for about 2 weeks before putting the 1700 back in it. All is air cooled. TT Volcano 7+
