Which ram should i get? I will be getting 2 sticks of 256. They are about the same price. Is the Mushkin any faster since it is PC3000?

Not sure what you mean by faster it might overclock higher or not but at the same speed not any real difference.

umm... if i am trying to overclock my p4 1.8a to 2.6+ which would be the better choice

Good question. I am not familar with how mushkin 3000 does so you will have to wait for someone who is.

As a guess I would say about the same since it's rated 2.5-3-3 but thats just a guess.

A 1.8a at 2600 runs at 145fsb. So either of those would do that no problem.
If your board has memory to cpu ratios the chioces would be something like 178mhz and 212mhz.

Both would do 178mhz the 212mhz is going to be a maybe maybe not thing with the samsung depending on luck of the draw.
Not sure about the mushkin 3000.

Unless you have a sis 645 or 645dx chipset motherboard the 212mhz option will not be available.

At 2600 the 1.8a will be at 145fsb.
The board will let you run the memory at 145mhz or 178mhz or 212mhz.
Memory guaranteed ratings.

Trust Me or if you don't then trust the reviews... Mushkin is samsung ram... however they only sell the best of the best samsung chips on their custom PCB... for example they have a PC2100 2-2-2 chip that is routinely hitting 180 fsb (DDR360) at the 2-2-2 timings and actually exceding 200 at 2-3-3.. at 3-3-3 who knows...

Here's a review...

I know this isn't a review of the PC3000 but it will give you a sample of the quality and overclockability of the procucts...

i now have mine stable at 195FSB @ turbo timings and
cas2 with a 3.0 vdimm. man i really love this stuff and
reccomend it :p

Gozma, you may not have a choice but to go with Corsair. Newegg no longer has the genuine Samsung CTL sticks and has to sell the DTL sticks which don't do as well.

I had a good 512 MB stick of Samsung that just broke, so I had to RMA it to Newegg. I asked for a replacement, but if it is the DTL sticks I'm going to send it back. The burnin process is a pain-in-the-butt, only to find the stick may only do 175 at 2.5-3-3-6-2.

I'm going to give the Corsair PC3200 a try, although it costs $30 more. It is guaranteed to do DDR400 but at 2.5-3-3-6-2. I am hoping it has more headroom so I can run faster settings. One good thing is it uses pretested Samsung chips and they don't need to be broken in.

The Mushkin PC3200 is not at option as they don't have 512 MB sticks, and even the 256 MB sticks are backordered.

i had it at 200FSB on cas 2 and turbo but it was a LITTLE
unstable. i bet it could do 215 at relaxed timings and a
1/6 divider as i dont think my PCI could keep up

DDR has no ca3 but i can run mem at 221 mhz fsb. it is Mushkin pc3000 same as starfox.

samsung pc2700 and muchkin pc3000 both use Samsng chips.

but the Mushkin is jstu samsung chips that are gaureenteed to hit 185.

i run 185 cas2 all turbo
