I built a new system earlier this year and had it working great until just the other day. I'm running an Abit kt7a-raid, athlon 1.4, 512mb pc133, geforce2 gts 64mb. I am using the raid controller so I can use 2 hard drives and select from 2000 pro on one and ME on the other. I recently installed a logitech optical usb mouse, after loading the 9.42 drivers the mouse properties screen would come up every time I booted up. I was mentioning it to a friend that suggested I check my startup programs with regcleaner, I didn't have it on my system yet so instead I used msconfig and disabled the logitech file. The mouse properties screen didn't come up anymore, but the next day when I booted up it went into safe mode. I rebooted and got an error message rundll caused an error in kernel32 and will now close. I went back into msconfig and put it back the way it was and rebooted. now the stupid thing has lost my video settings, I reinstalled the drivers for the card and it doesn't fix the problem, the sound card also quit working too! This thing ran fine for 3 months until this happened. I would like to repair whatever is wrong rather than abandon it and move to another OS, it worked ok for me until this, have I just been extremely lucky or what? I have read the posts and know that most of you hate winME but I hear all the crap about XP too. Is there a way to repair the damaged files without reformatting?

I almost have the same system as you except for the raid.
and when i was using ME, I had alot of strange things happen. Like on my 2nd drive every once and a while it would just currupt all my info, which really sucked cuz I used it as my storage.
plus I ALWAYS got that kernal 32 error, and a friend of mine is using ME and he always gets it.
I recomend getting XP as soon as possible.
ME sucks!!!

as for not formatting, you could try reinstalling everything "drivers and software" or reinstalling ME.
I think you have been fortunate that ME lasted that long for you without problems.
I think the best thing microsoft has done is get rid of the 9X series!!!
well only second to making the X-Box:)

I did have to tweak the hell out of it and download all the updates I thought would be necessary for what I was doing with it. I did have a few problems and it crashed right after I got it going when I added some memory, it just makes me mad that I have enough info on the drive now that I don't want to lose! The only reason for running ME was so my games that wouldn't work on 2000 could still be played. I am using 2000 now exclusively because the Drive with ME has lost all resolution due to the video card problem. In device manager it shows the drivers aren't loaded for the card but reinstalling them doesn't fix it, the ******* is definitely going crazy and taking me with it! I will probably reformat and try out XP with a fresh install. As far as the way I'm using the raid controller to select my boot drive one person suggested that I was screwing up my whole system because of it, he seemed to think that raid is only for a striping array and that since the drives are different that was causing problems. I disagree because the drives are not being used together, they are both IBM gxp75s one is a 46gb and the other is a 60gb. I originally set this up this way to be able to run older programs on one drive and newer on the other, best of both worlds I thought. I do agree now after all these problems that ME really sucks, I wish I would have known because I could have used 98se instead.

well i ran Me for a long time without even one hiccup and it was on a highly overclocked system. Me does take a little tweaking to make it stable but i still like it better then 98 because it boots faster, anyway for your problem i would install Me over the top of your existing files [saving them] this will reinstall anything missing [hopefully] get the detinator drivers and install those if they will as for the mouse i would not install the software that comes with it just the drivers this will keep one more thing from hogging system resource's. you may also go to axcel216 [do a search for his site it will come up] its a great tweak site and there may be a few other tweaks that may help you out in there.

Im running xp now and i'll never go back to Me heck i ran a dual boot Me\2000 pro for a week before i ditched Me for good and now with xp i ditched 2000 pro the first day of having xp

one last thing try only running with 256 mb's of ram anything over 256 is a waist with Me i ran more and did not notice a lick of difference, 512 may actually cause a slow down in performance with Me as 256 is the sweet spot [when you get xp it will love all yoiu can throw at her]

you should be able to browse the cd from WinMe and run setup, if not get into bios and make cd the first bootable drive and reboot in WinMe and the setup should run automaticaly.

Outhouse,
I'm pretty sure I tried the browse method so I will try the bios setting and see what happens. Thanks for your help.
