What is it with me and hardware lately!? Check this out:
Last week, I noticed a little water at the bottom of my case, a Koolance water-cooling rig modded out the bunghole. I figured it was just the remains of the giant glass of water that my friend very politely spilt directly into the fans on top of my case a few days prior to this, so I just wipe it up and close it up.
A few days later, I get to working on another friend's computer (formatting, installing XP and slapping some RAM in it) and move mine out of its little nook to hook the friend's up to my perips. He's set to go in about an hour, and I hook my baby back up after he leaves. I hit the big 'ole power button. Nothing. No POST, no anything. So, out it comes again and off with the side. WOOSH! I'm soaked with the entirety of my water-cooling liquid solution. Seems that the reservoir had a crack in it that had slowly spread until it could no longer hold the coolant.
So that’s one thing broken. Luckily, no hardware got soaked too terribly badly, and after a second drying out (the water glass incident took a day of drying also) I slap on an old Thermaltake to chill the proc till I get the new reservoir in. The magical power button is pressed again, and again I get nothing. Now I'm worried. I start checking components, but everything tests fine, so I move to my nice 430watt Enermax PSU. I slap on some jumpers to test it and flip the switch. Gone. Completely bye-bye. I guess this is a good thing in a way, because if it had been working when the water was everywhere, I would have lost everything. How ironic.
So, in one week, I lost my water-cooling reservoir and my 430watt Enermax. Koolance people are great to deal with, and immediately sent me a new reservoir, which should be here in a few days. The Enermax people, on the other hand, are unreachable. I can't seem to find any contact information on them at all. So, in the meantime, I'm straining an old generic 230watt psu and running my system at vcor barely above the shutdown point.
I just thought you all would enjoy this little tale of my recent woe, and maybe it would remind some of you on how good ya got it :) BTW, any help on getting a hold of Enermax people is greatly appreciated. Later all.
