people have been very happy building them from cardboard...

a roll of duct tape will help you a great deal.

need a link??

I made mine out of thin aluminum and electrical tape and attached it to my 120mm Panaflo with 3M tape. Wasn't hard, just cut the aluminum with scissors into pieces and taped them together.

sure hawk, a link would help a lot.

1Time, do you have any pics. that sounds interesting and
i may try one or the other idea.

Some people use duct.

big fan (120mm mouth)--------duct-------Heatsink (80mm mouth)

sounds good 1Time.

yea, i was thinking that but would a duct be as effective
as a adaptor?

Yo starfox, if your going to use as a duct. try keeping it off heatsink slightly say about a 1/4" away. thats what got me my best temps.

Mine is attached to my 120mm Panaflo and funnels for about 2 inches down to a square 80mm opening which sits about a mm over my hs. However, a duct from your side panel has got to cool better since your bringing in cool air. You really don't need an adapter if you're going to do that. Still, you may want to funnel your duct down to an 80mm square so you can to focus the cool air directly onto your hs. After I made mine I was going to dremel a hole in my side panel and do this, but then I scrapped that idea and decided to duct from my wall A/C unit to the front of my case. A/C is cool. :)

Here's a close up pic showing a side view of my 120mm Panaflo on the left, hs on the right and my aluminum/electrical tape funnel between them. The 3M tape is holding the aluminum to my Panalfo. Again, I don't believe this is needed if you're going to duct to the side panel; just duct cool air to a bare hs.

Here's another pic showing how I suspended the whole thing very securely over the hs. Not much to look at of course, but that 4" A/C duct keeps it nice and cool. :)

looks great. what kinda temps do you get.especially
with that ducted A/C.

so you just took a aluminum sheet and cut and folded and taped
it to your liking?

sounds east, thanks for your help!

Per MBM5 my temps are anywhere from 25C to 33C, usually around 28C. That's running the A/C on low with a room temp of about 74F. I'm not O/C right now but under load it doesn't go over 33C. But when I crank the A/C up a bit, it's 30C under load and idles around 23C.

The aluminum I used was a 4" air duct about 2 feet long from Home Depot for about $5.00. I just unrolled it, flattened it out and cut a strip with scissors 2" wide and as long as the circumference of the Panaflo, I think about 20" or so. Then, I bent it around the Panaflo with 1" of the aluminum on the fan and 1" hanging over the exhaust side of the fan. Then, I cut smaller, different shaped strips of aluminum, and one by one shaped and taped them to the first piece of aluminum until it formed a square 80mm opening. Pretty easy to do. I just didn't want the weight of my 120mm Panaflo mounted to my already fairly heavy AX-7 hs. Plus, I think mine works better than the one that could be bought for $17.00 anyway.

thanks for the info! just one more Q before i do this. how
did you mount this to your heatsink? thanks a lot for
all the help. :p

No, I've got it all suspended about 1mm above my hs. You'll need a fan adapter to mount it.

I don't know if this helps, but my dad is going to make one out of sheetmetal and use pop-rivets to fasten the metal to each other. Tape would work too but pop-rivets are nice because they look good. You can cut tabs and pop-rivet them where you would need the screw holes for the fan and heatsink. I'll post a pic when it's done.

I asked this question in a previous thread and nobody helped me

Beavis, I had posted a description of my mod a few months ago when I first did it but hadn't gotten around to taking pics until tonight. Sorry I couldn't have been able to help you before.
