I rarely buy new cpu's etc.. due to money constraints.. but recently i got a 1.6a had for about 2 and a half weeks now, right now i have it at fsb of 160 @1.6v 1560mhz basically.. its a nice oc, but i rathar have a nice lengthy life for my cpu, can both of these happen :) just wondering thanks also my temps go about 29c idle and about 46 at maxium stress

Don't you mean 2560?? 16 x 160 = 2560. Anyway from what I have read here as long as you keep your temps down it will extend the life of the cpu somewhat regardless of how high you oc it.

ya sorry 2560
I'd worry more about voltage than temps. I ruined my first northy by running 1.9 volts. I had a water block and kept it under 50C, but the voltage sure killed it. I'd try to stay below 1.8, maybe even 1.75 volts if you can live with the overclock you get from that.

hey i am at 1.65 right now .. and at 2600mhz.. i can live with this :) but even 1.65 is that bad? hmm i love having the high speed but i rathar have a long term computer
thanks for the help

my very first post said i was at 1.6 sorry thats wrong i am at 1.65 volts
Most procs these days will run well at 2v. I advise you stay at (but preferably) below 2v. You'll want really good cooling to allow you to run at that voltage and maintain stabiliy as well as chip life.
I've heard of several Northwoods frying from overvolting. I suggest everyone go back up and read TC's last post again. For longevity, stay at 1.8v or less (actual), I agree with TC on this fact. Sure, if your cooling is great, you might want to do a short blast to the outer limits in order to post some awesome benchmarks and to see what your system can do, but I sure would not run at high voltage very long. My signature claims 2.7 gig, but temps and voltage were much higher than I was comfortable with at that speed. So, I normally run 2.5 gig at 1.70v to 1.75v with load CPU temps between 44 to 47 degrees. Been going strong for 6 months now.

once again batboy is right! (do you ever get tired of that bro?) For a long and happy cpu life try and stay under 1.8volts actual (that's 1.85 volt bios approximately), i've read on several circumstances that people have lost their cpu due to over volting! make sure you keep your cpu cool, my theory is that noice is better than heat, this is probably why i have a 50dba vantec on my cpu right now.. what was that mom i can't hear ya...
