A customer of my friends shop brought in; A7M266 - D ADAPTEC 39160 IBM 18G 10,000RPM Video Card(every card we could get our hands on,TNT - GF4 Ti4200) ENERMAX 431WWe could not get it to run 3D apps/games/benchmarks on 98SE/ME(we know it doesnt support duallies), W2KPro, XP Home & XP Pro, all patches for installed when required. We tried different BIOS revs which only really fixed the USB2 card compatability. No 3D apps/games work at all, it just locks up within 5 seconds of running the benchmark or game.

CLUES?

Do you have the correct AGP miniport driver installed for it? I'm not sold on running 98/ME on a 762 chipset either and am not sure it even has drivers for the AGP.

We were just testing every possible OS we had. It's running XP Pro right now. I'll check on tuesday about the miniport driver. If the owner lets me take it home maybe I can take a closer look at it.

Believe if you're only running one CPU it's supposed to be in a designated socket too. Not sure if it has anything to do with it but best to cover all bases.

Both CPU are installed & will keep troubleshooting it on XP Pro. It's been at the shop for 3 days now..... the only thing we have not replaced is the PSU & mobo, can't find another one. Another thing is that the HDD seems really slow:confused:

I just gave my Dual-Athlon MP1900+ with the ASUS A7M266-D to a friend because of the massive headache it gave me. Now I've got a PIV 2.4 and ABIT TH7-II Raid. This dual board is NOT for gaming and you will find lackluster results and constant problems if you are trying to PowerGame. If you're playing Tetris it works great....

Many games will not work on the MPX- fullstop. RedAlert2 is one that come to mind immediately. UT, Quake, RTCW will run, but you'll have to play around a bit. If you're trying to run RA2 it's not your system but the duals in general.

Most likely it's the Power Supply.
Does everything else work? What happens when you run the game? ie. BSOD, Reset of PC, ??? Most likely it's your PSu which isn't big enough to power the board and the GeForce. Thus whenever you try to run a 3D game or bench it doesn't work. Also, if you've got it OC'ed you better try it at default speeds.

If it's not your PS it could be anyone of 50 things.
Do some research on www.2cpu.com furums.

Good luck. If you enjoy CONSTANT problem solving you're playing with the right system.

It will be running a GF2 when the owner pics it up at the end of the week & a Ti4600 will be installed on his gaming machine. This is suppose to be a game server. We were just trying everything we could find in the shop to trouble shoot for any compatibility issues . Have not visited the shop today since no new parts to test. Trying a new PSU, 550W, tomorow if it comes in.

what brand of memory are you using??

We put in a 550W Enermax in it & everything is running OK for now. Looks like running a SMP with 2 MP2000+ & only 43Amps on the 5V rail & a power hungry video card just wont cut it.

This is really disappointing for AMD on SMP & single setups. Having such high power requirements for their CPUs, running 2.0GHz on Palomino & TBred cores require a min 45Amps to run them, can really push the budget up.

yeah, mine was running w/ a Antec 400W psu. and it always locked up randomly! no clue at all. then i change to a 500W psu, everything runs fine now. especially u can check on the 5v rail w/ MBM, it was always dip down to 4.8v!

Makes sense really. My main one couldn't hack it with a 500W Leadman anymore and I had to replace it with a 550W Enermax. They definately require plenty of power depending on what you you're running on it.

My dual rig runs just fine with a "Turbolink" 420W unit.... but then again, I **AM** running two Durons, two CDROM units, and one IDE HDD and like four fans, for now. There are definitely people with higher power requirements than me.

It was my first guess to the problem really but when we use MBM to monitor voltages running the only stress app it could, Sandra Burn - In, the 5V rail only dipped to 4.97V so we didnt think too much of it again & probably forgot about the video card. Now the more expensive PSU are starting to look a bit cheaper:eh?:

well, i'm using 500W (or 550W? i forgot) PowMax. it's cheap when compare to Enermax or Antec. but all rail is running above or around spec. when crunching SETI 24/7!!

u can do a search in pricewatch for it. i got mine from www.essencompu.com for around $55!

CompGeeks has the 500W POWMAX for $49. That's what the Leadman is...still sits in my secondary dually. Very good PSU for the price. Solid 5.05V 5V rail.

actually you need to make sure that you have 30 amps on the 5v rail.. it doesn't matter about the brand OR the stated wattage..

btw the enermaxes are totally crap for the 5v rail no matter what the wattage.. have a look its all over the place..

i am using samsung 2100
when it comes to PSU i have 2x250watt
1 for mobo and HD
1 for cd roms and fans
