Each country has its own copyright laws and obviously overclockers.com can not cover all of these and as such we take the view of being safe rather than sorry. If anything has the possibility of being used in illigal activitys then it is not welcome here as overclockers.con does not have the finance to support costly legal bills if sued. Obviously if you are not doing anything wrong respective to your location then the best people to contact regarding the backing up or reproduction of your software would be the company which produced it and as such I would suggest contacting them.

Some software alows it and some doesn't. Read your EULA before doing anything like that.

I keep CD-R backups of all critical data discs - all OS installation discs, and a few games I couldn't live without.

Whether the EULA allows it or not, I do it anyway. It's not like the EULA will save you when you accidently drop a CD *just* right and it shatters on your hard tile floor...

Of course, I have people badgering me all the damn time.

When I tell them that it's illegal to copy and distribute copyrighted software, and that the developers won't get any cash for their work, they get all in a snit and call me a *****/dumbass/etc.

That's right, people, I'm an idiot for *not* commiting a federal offense.
