hey when i overclocked my cpu to 158fsb.. ran prime95 for about only 35 minutes.. the temperature rose from 30C to 51C hehe is this typical? and if i ran it for like 24 hours would the temp really rise? and secondly is it worth keeping this OC due to these really high temps?

A little toasty, but not bad. Maybe I missed it, but what kind of cooler are you using?

If I remember correctly Intel says these things can operate at 60c.

A wee bit high, I'd switch it up to medium if I were you. And no, those temps will level off around there.

The P4 will begin to throttle down at 70C, so theoretically that is the maximum operational speed.

i would get a better cooler if you cant stablize those temps with that overclock.

i've read from many sources that it's good to keep your p4 under 60'C. anything above that, except a sporatic extreme heavy load, is not good. that seems to be a good rule of thumb for a p4. so you seem ok.

my p4 1.6@2.2 idle at 39C, heavy load at 51C.
case, usually around 34C.

no honestly my room temp is about 78F, which translates to about 25C.

So I must be doin' pretty good, right?

That's usually what my case temp starts out at upon turnon.

I would think, then, that your reported temps are good. I mean, mine is 39C/51C with standard 1.5v. You're with 1.8v and only a few degrees more; sounds like we're all pretty much in spec as far as temps.

gosh this is fun!
