View Full Version : Hole for Case Screws is Too Big

I have a low quality case. One of the holes on the back of my case, where I screw the sides to the bracket, is broken. When I try to put a screw in it, it keeps turning like there's nothing there. This is the bottom left-hand screw that's having problems. Is there anything I could do to fix this? Or do I just put in a larger screw? I don't want to damage the case any further. :(

I would go with a bigger screw.
If you had acess to welding equipment you could weld up the hole then redrill and tap it, but thats a lot of work, it would be much easier to just use a bigger screw, perhaps you could soulder the hole then redrill & tap that but soulder is ver soft and it after a few times of taking the screw out it would need to be re-done.
I saw go for the bigger screw.... the standard size for most computer screws is 6/32, find an 8/32 self tapping screw and it will make itself new threads and won't wreck you case.

Or you could try some jb weld, let it dry, then sand drill and tap it. But unless u want to repaint, it isn't going to look pretty.
Or... it might be tricky but you could glue a nut over the hole on the inside, then just screw it into it.

Depending on how tight you wanted it on there you could run a bolt through from inside and then put a wing nut for easy removal on the outside. If you wanted it tighter you would either have to find a bolt head that would catch an edge on the case so it would not spin whilst tighting. Other than that the JB welding a nut on the inside is a good idea as well. Personally, I would get a bigger screw. :)
