Virus

I think i might have gotten a virus, it has changed all my MP3's and my jpg's to *.jpg/mp3.vbs windows recognizes them as "VBScript files" i just don't get it, what is wrong? Is there anyway short of Reformatting to fix this?

should have been running an up to date virus scanner. You can probably download the virus cleaner from mcafee.com or symantec.com. But I am pretty sure that all your mp3's are gone!

fortunatly if its the virus i think it is (the i love you virus btw) your mp3s are beyond repair.. you may have noticed that they still work - they will continue to work, but will always be infected. you should purchase an anti virus scanner program, get the latest definition files, and do a full system scan, you will probably notice that all of your jpeg and other picture files are infected also (if not then you're very lucky indeed) they are also unrepairable.. backing up really wont work, because then you'll just be infecting your new install..

1 thing i have heard and im not sure if this actually works, i once had a friend who had this virus infect his mp3 collection (over 3000 songs) he spent a week converting them all to wavs, then moving them to a differnet computer on his network... he claims that converting them actually gets rid of the virus.. i guess it MIGHT in theory but i've never actually done it so i couldnt tell ya... oh well food for though.. sorry about the luck
