Hi guys,
Ive been readin a lot of problems about this board not doing above 150 but i just tried it with a 1.6A & i can bench 3dmark @170FSB,i didnt have any boot issues whats so ever & i think so far my chip is limiting me, this board comes with 4/24 bios & about the only problem i faced is whenever u go above 160FSB if u press F10 & u get that screeen in the bios i press enter & nothing happenes, any key wont work either so u got to reset & then u are greeted with ur FSB already been saved other then that i think this mobo is very nice.

Sorry forgot to mention this is using one stick of Corsair-XMS3000 & Leadtek Ti4600.

great post and accomplisment with your board! i don't think there are truly a lot of problems with the board, I think its just that people aren't treating their 4G4A+ properly, that's all. as you show, high overclocks can be done.

so far i've got my 1.6@2.2, mem DDR333@DDR345, without even breaking a sweat. I'm keeping posted upon what guys like you do with it, so that one day I'll push mine a bit farther, and know what to do.

Thanx phily for ur kind words, well after a couple of hours with the board i seem to have no problems at all except saving the setting in the bios as i mentioned earlier, but i think that would be solved with a bios update.I am using a 400 watt Aopen PSU my 12V & 5V are something like 12.22 & 5.08,im not sure but maybe thats helping,im also using a crap heatsink/fan & im sure with a decent one maybe i could go a bit higher.

P.S:that mbm isnt right since i set it up for the BD7-II.

The problems of 4G4A+ begin when your ram clock is higher than, lets say DDR360. Yours is DDR344 and i asure you, that all benchmarks at fsb 162(2.59G) and DDR404 would be higher than fsb 172(2.72G) and DDR 344, because RAM bandwidth is very important with the P4s :-)
And dont say The RAM is only DDR300 rated, because the same ram ran flawlessly at DDR408 on 4BDA2+, so its not her fault :-))

Very intresting,i totaly agree,i didnt try the DDR-360 though,i also gave away that board & im playing around with P4B533-V.Lets see if i can get this board to go higher.

I have had no problem running my ram at over 400+ with this board. Also I have had it boot with the FSB set @177 but it did not do much after that. I tried to run PCMark but it just dies. However it does run stable @165.

What RAM do you use, what is the bios date?
i run DDR402 at the moment, but only in the 2. dimm slot, the 1. and 3. can do DDR360-370 max
You can try the new bios, im sure you will not able to boot into win even at ddr333 :-))
Something very interesting, the latest Sandra reports, that my mem timings are 2-2-2, in bios they are set at 2.5-3-3, perhaps it has something to do with it, or its just wrong detection.

Nas-are you running the 256 mb xms 3000 stick? I've got one of those and its the best stick of ram i've ever had. It blows a xms 3200 stick that i have away!

Yes sir i am,i did the voltage mod on the 4G4A+ before i gave it away & i reached 180FSB with that ram @most agressive timings, one thing i found was that the vcore flcuates a lot especially when i bench, example MBM shows 1.88v & when u run Prime95 is goes down to like 1.79.Any one got any idea why ?

Thanx

I'm not exactly sure why but mine does the same thing under load.

I would guess it's because Epox doesn't use the 4-pin +12V Aux connector. The purpose of it is to keep the core voltage stable. Funny though, my old 4SDA didn't show any fluctuations like the 4GA4+ does.

Im using the Asus P4B533-V & that also has the Vcore problem, even though it has the +12V connector.

I'm using a 4bda2+ which uses the 4-pin connector and I get those minor fluctuations.

Yes, I also notice strange things happening with volts, e.g.
3.3V rail is constantly at 2.5V. Is this a major problem?

Also, when benching I get 2 strange effects :-

1. a fan (CPU?) makes a differnet noise (going faster?)

2. Vcore dips from 1.7 to 1.65

I'm running 1.6A @2.4 stable. I haven't worked out a min. voltage yet.

Also noticed major VDU interference once when running Prime95 but I think may have been interference from another monito cable (not sure though).

I would guess from this that voltage regulation is a major issue (not necessarily "problem") with the 4G4A+ (using a 300W supply BTW)

Cheers

That isn't the 3.3V rail, it's the DDR voltage and 2.5V is exactly on spec.

Could you please share some insite as how to treat the 4G4A+
properly?

I am not haveing any luck overclocking my 2.26B on this mobo.
Not even with corsair XMS 3000, and a 465w PSU.

What is it doing? or not doing in this case?

Not going past 145fsb.

At 147 crash bag smash em up.

At any vcore, slowest mem timings

What type of Chip? What kind of cooling?

P4 2.26B
Water Swiftec setup

I found and flashed to the 2617 BIOS
That has let me get to 165fsb 1:1 on the mem
Stable? I will know as soon as I run some benchies
