I read the yattamonster threads and I've wondered about this, so I finally worked up the courage to ask, How do I build a farm?
Is there a site or thread, that tells me what I need to know? My problem is though, and I sorry for not being fluent in this next part, but I also do some 3d art. So when I build a folding farm, I also want it to be a part time render farm if thats possible. I don't how to build(or setup) a render farm to begin with anyways so if its not possible to do it thats fine. I don't care about 110% complete effieciency but I do care about bang for buck if that helps. I have no programig skills, but If it is needed I'll try to learn them. If theres anything else I left out please point it out. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes and thank you for your response in advance.

P.S. If anyone else has questions, but is afraid to ask them for fear of being mocked, go ahead and ask, at best you get your question answered, and at worst you get mocked by people whose opinion really doesn't matter. Now, if I could only follow my own advice.....

P.P.S. Mods, if this is in the wrong forum, I'm sorry.

I believe that this (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60886) thread might help you! If it doesn't, don't be afraid to say that it didn't help!! We'll help you out all that we can. :) :D

for building a farm you would most likely be looking to concentrate on the service that you want the farm to perform. with a render farm a beowulf type of cluster would probably serve you better. The folding client doesn't work on the beowulf platform as you would need to recompile the client to make it work properly. A folding farm is much simpler to build as you can use miscellaneous headless systems and they don't need to work together as one system. A render farm could work in such circumstances if each machine is rendering a different image, but my guess is that you want high speed rendering of single images. I am only guessing. ;)

As for how to. I think that we are finding this out right now. A lot of thought has gone into the type of hardware, the os etc. It seems to be coming together and I would expect to see more as progress is achieved. Otherwise I know that there is a Yahoo group for creating beowulf and other types of Clusters, but cannot remember the groups name.
