Does anybody knokw what can make a monitor's display turn purple suddenly? yesterday my monitor was perfect and now it's got a nasty purple tint, then it went back to normal as i was typing this, then filckering to purple and back to normal. is the monitor dying, or is this fixable? thanks in advance for any help.

I thing it can be fixed with a couple of kicks ;)
I had a similar prob (mine had a blue shadow) and after slaping it a few times it was OK.

check the connectors. when you lose a color it usually means one of hte pins is not making contact with the vid card.

The actuall prob isn't the connection but the monitor : it could be overheating so a couple of wires is shorting.(That's what happened to me)

thats happened to me many times, it was just a bent pin on the vga connector. Check that out and bend any back that are out of place.

That's how I ruined my last KDS AV7T. Because of my desk configuration, the VGA cable was crimped all the time. So any movment of the case or monitor agitated what was already an unhealthy bend.

It's very probably that it's your VGA cable. Try jiggling the cable with your feet (if your comp is on the ground) or hands (if it's on your desk) and find a good angle that keeps the purple from taking over (which is actually the "yellow" data cable being disconnected), then tie your cable so it stays there with string (tape will get sticky).

It's a temporary fix, but it saved my monitor for another 3 months before the cable was beyond tweaking and I had to buy and isntall a new cable. You WILL have to replace something eventually, be it your cable or the whole monitor if your monitor's cables are soldered in.

seems it was a loose cable. was changing my video card later that day, and after that the problem went away.

Heh, this reminds me of a monitor at my school, you and hit it, and when you do, the tint changes into all the colors of the rainbow heh, it just keeps on flickering into different colors untill it stops shaking, it looks kinda neat.

Well if you cant fix it then get a magnet and have some fun with that. Man monitors hate magnets.

hehe yes magnets can sure be fun around a monitor, i recently bought some 200 watt speakers for my front channel on the computer and didnt relaize they were not shielded.....turned on the computer and my screen was twisted to hell, thank god it went back to normal when i moved the speakers away :)
