put in both cards, and post back what it says in Device Manager about the non-functioning NIC.
If it's a conflict, try manually changing the resource ranges in the OS, and if that doesn't work, then try changing them in the BIOS (and turn off "Plug & Play OS", so the BIOS will control PnP.)

The NIC just disappears from the Device Manager?
Then windows doesn't think it's in the computer. Probably a resource conflict..
Try going into BIOS and setting the resources manually there, and turn off "Plug & Play OS".
Check your mobo manual. Some PCI slots share IRQ's and that will cause a problem for the nics. Do you have the option of putting the second nic in another slot?

Time to start manually assigning IRQ's in your bios, but before that, remove your sound card and plug the other NIC card in that slot to see if it works.
