View Full Version : My story heh.
This is going to be really stupid lol. I now find how stupid I am for doin some of the things I did. This is my first time painting my drive plates, so according to an article I found I bought Krylon primer and this Dutch Boy acrylic enamel paint. Well I sanded everything with 1000 grit sandpaper initially, everything was looking good. So then I apply the primer...Wait 6 hours and sand it. Still looking good. So then I apply a coat of the real black paint. Seems fine. Well the next day I notice that the paint on the tray front buldged up around the sides so I sanded the whole thing again, and repainted it. Well 1 day later (after I let everything dry) Everything still cracked to the touch. Now I figure something, the article I found wasnt the most accurate thing in the world. But before that I got drunk and stupid  and used goof off to get the paint off (BIG MISTAKE). The faceplate melted :burn: ...So did my hands, at first :D , So im left with a 50 dollar drive without a faceplate. Not sure what im going to do (open to options on a new faceplate, dont wanna buy anouther lol) Feel free to flame ect me = very stupid when drunk and im not the most experienced painter in the world. (Did you know that goof off stuff eats your hands off, jeezus. have sores and cracks on my hand from that evil stuff). :(

Why would you sand your face plate down, and use primer?
Call me an idiot, it was my first time, but I just used Krylon spray paint (said it would work with plastic). No sanding or priming. I stuck it in the computer, and did some heavy Swat III, QIII, and Tiger Woods 2002. No melting or bulging or anything like that. It still looks excellent. I did it about a week ago I believe.
I just followed what I read on the internet, not sure what im going to do now. prolly just order anouther 50 dollar dvd rom..this time mayber ill try some sort of Vinyl Dye i keep hearing about. Grr this really ticks me off.

Hehe; I started a thread asking this, and they said Vinyl Dye was the way to go.
Just tryed to repair the melting-plastic. I washed it off after soaking it in a mixture of baking soda and water attempting to neutralize the acid. So far so good. Still smells like a really bad paint thinner, but oh well. I sanded it for about 30 minutes and the surface didnt look bad. Besides from the weak plastic on the sides of it it was pretty good. So i went ahead and painted it with my current enamel paint (Depending on how this looks im not sure if i wanna use vinyl dye). Also, what would i use to paint the ACTUAL cd tray. I saw it done, the page was in german tho (and i can only understand a years worth of high school german, going into german 2 next year). I heard someone put an enamel paint in there and it caught on fire.
