Its junk, it barely outdoes the stock cooler....... For the last time get a Cooljag 1U cooler or just dont get anything at all.

You keep spouting off about it not outperforming the stock cooler. Sure, it might not do much better than the reference cooler that most cards use, but have you taken a close look at the piece of crap that the Gainward 4200 comes with? I'm interested in this Thermaltake unit because it's a direct bolt on and I'm sure it's going to outperform the stock cooling.

On a related note, what is the best way to measure gpu temp? I'll do some before/after tests.

Buy you a temp probe or a compunurse. Look at one of the posts above. I suggested taking the 1U cooler and drilling holes to match the stock card and then taking some plastic screws to mount it with.

Btw, if you look at the reviews Gainward is one of the coolest temps of any of the Geforce 4 series. I believe in the ones I have seen its MSI, Leadtek and then Gainward.

Thanks, I was looking more along the lines of suggestions on where to place the thermal probe, how to mount it, etc.

Are these reviews talking about the 4200 model? Seems to me there is probably a reason Gainward went with a reference style cooler on their 4400 and 4600 models.

I don't mind spending the money on a TT, and then trashing it if it doesn't perform. Find out in a couple of weeks I guess :)

I would just slide it up under the heatsink as close to the GPU as you can get it.

I really suggest trying my solution with the 1U cooler. There is someone on this forum that has done it I just cant remember who. I am going to do it with both my new Abit Ti4200 and Ti4400's.
