Since you're not using the lower most 5.25 bay, move the HDDs up a notch(each), and maybe flip them so that the wires are at the front of the case? The Radiator could go on the top of the case between the back of your CD-ROM and PS?

Three questions:

is the case wider than the radiator

Are you that determined to get the rad IN the case (I get 3c better temps with my rad external)

Are you putting a window in the side panel.

Answer those and I'll give you my ideas:p

Ottoman

actually I already have a "window" I haven't put glass in it yet, cuz I've had the rad outside with the hoses running through it, but it kinda ruins the look...

How about this:

Drop the optical drives down a bay each (4 bays and it looks like you are only using 2, right?)

Mount your fans as exhaust flush with the top of the case, radiator directly below. This will help get heat out from rising plus the fans, and leaves room on the bottom of the case for the res. and pump.

Nice case btw: mine's the same, only cheapo version: boring exterior. A challenge to get a full h2o system in! But a good solid case all the same.

Two areas of Improvement:

Black circle: Move these upwards as far as possible; see the cable connections? Make them face the front of the case.

Red Circle: Trim the cages and you may be able to get the pump/resevoir in there. You should get a smaller radiator(5x5 or something) and mount it between the 2 back fans(Green Circle)

Penguin4x4: that's exactly how I did my case initially!!

But my radiator was a bit too big as well (Swiftech) although smaller than Ottoman's.

I ended up switching to the rad in front: hdd is mounted in DigiDoc in the top 5.25, then two opticals and floppy- no hdd cages.

But the temps were still hotter than I liked: external mount, baby!:p

Also: in that case you should have room for the pump behind the drive cages as they are- use velcro (or something) to hold the res. in position about where it is now.

I've mounted all 4 drives together b4.... they get really hot fast!

i don't wanna buy a new rad, I'd rather use the one I currently have, cuz I lost my job and have no income at the moment....

I dunno if I can turn the drives around, and still slide on the rails.. those rolled ide cables are kinda stiff

EDIT: if u notice in the I have a server tower big brother dwarfing this case.. it's currently empty... but I like the antec case and cooling is better on it, so I'd like to be able to squeeze it in...

it'll be a crying shame if I have to cut it :(

I can at most lose 1 20gb hdd and dump it's data onto the Raid... but the 30gb is full, it aint goin anywhere...

Sorry for the horrible pic- mspaint....

Red is where the cd drives are now, yellow is where to put them, a long as there is nothing in the way (that can't be moved!)

White is where to put the fans (exhaust through a blowhole- hey: you gotta cut SOMWHERE!) And blue is for the rad. As long as it fits sideways.

None of the hard drives will have to move this way.

I've got the same case, so I'd be interested as well how you plan on fitting your stuff in there.

You still have enough room to push the hard drives upwards and still not be together. With one less, it should be a good enough compromise. Turning the drive around with round cables is next to impossible, so scrap that. You could cut the Radiator in half,:D. Or you could mount it externally like a Koolance case.

straight fan and rad eh... hmmm...

stratch the shroud then I guess... when I had it oustide, I had it duoble shrouded with a 120 on each side

so it's gonna suck air through the rad and out the top? or blow through it..

I wish the top came off my case, it'd be so much easier...

where is it mounted then when it's on the outside? back? top?

I don't see how u couldn't mount it on the back..

I have a couple of feet of extra hose on mine, and I'm right next to a window...When its cool out the rad goes in the window and temps are FANTASTIC:D

If its too hot out, the rad comes in and goes on the floor.

If you try my idea (what I wanted to do with mine, but you need 2 free 5.25 bays- I only have 1 at best) exhaust with the rad. fans: fans pulling through the radiator seem to do slightly better than blowing through it, at least on mine.

Two things I don't like about my case: no removable mobo tray, and the top is riveted on.

The more I look at your PS the more it ****es me off. Their radiator is cooled with 3 parallel 80mm=240mm, so, yeah, about the same size, actually. Another Link (http://koolance.com/products/pc2-601/top/). Rogerdugans right. Move your opticals down a space and put your radiator on the top, and the HDD's can be moved just a lttle more northward, the resvroir would fit under the (trimmed) cage

Before I decided to keep my rad. outside, I had the drive cages in, and my Eheim 1048 on the case bottom, between the cages and the mobo side of the case: hose went up next to the drives.

A tight squeeze, but it fit.

And Koolance is where I got the idea in the first place....but I wanted both cd's and the digidoc.

sounds like a plan.

only that bother me is that intake temps of the rad are gonna be pretty bloody hot...
since it's suckin in all the hot air that rises to the top.
but u can't have everything, i think I may try it...

what do u think would better?

3 80mm's or 1 or 2 beasty 120's?

Penguin4x4
06-20-02, 07:55 PM
With the Koolance, The front 2 furthermost to the front are intakes, the last one is exhaust. I say get 2 Panasonic PanaFlo H1A's, 1 intake, 1 exhaust, more flow,(200CFM vs. 120CFM). You may also want to make a shroud(like the Koolance). Thats me though.

I'd go with 120s, and if you need to, you could always turn that chimney you have now into an intake.....

Ottoman
06-20-02, 08:33 PM
the intake and exhaust right next to each other seems illogical to me...

should be all intake one side and all exhaust on the other

Airflow stuff in cases is always tricky: I've seen stuff that made great sense not do anything, and stupid ideas that did great.

Experimentation is the Key!

But having the rad exhaust up top, as well as the psu should do well; trick will be matching intake and exhaust cfm up, I think.

I just got an idea, but you'll need to check some dimensions to see if this will work.

What are the dimensions of your radiator?

How far is it from the bottom of the case to the bottom of the 5.25" cage?

Check to see if the 3.5" cages are located off the centerline of the case. If they're off-center, see how much space there is between the cages and the side panel.

If these numbers work out, it may be possible to mount the radiator like this. This is looking down from the top of the case.

| |ŻŻŻŻ|*****|
| | |*****|
| | |*****|
| | |*****|
| | |*****|
| |____|*****|

The outer edges of this diagram represent the side panels. The rectangle inside that is the 3.5" cage. It may be possible to fit the radiator into the space marked by the asterisks.

I was going to suggest the exact same thing. The only problem (potential problem) I found with that set up, is the fact that he has already cut a blow hole up top, and it may not line up with the rad (little less efficient).
