bah i didnt read your post all the way through sorry. hmm other than that i dont know
Please re-articulate your problem.
What exactly are you talking about when you say system bar? Do you mean task bar?
Is the whole task bar not showing up? Ever? Even if you move your mouse to where it should be?
i mean the bottom right part of the task bar, where the clock shows
the clock shows, and sometimes some programs show like ICQ and autoshut down and norton, but stuff like AIM and MBM just don't show up at all there
EDIT:: btw that spiderman is awesome =P
Ok first thing you need to do is determine if these programs are actually running.
So first reboot your computer, then use the CTRL-ALT-DEL function to access the Processes tab to see if you can spot any of the programs that "should" be running.
Also you can go to your start menu, click RUN, then type "MSCONFIG" use the last tab labeled STARTUP to determine what programs are starting with your computer.
After doing that, come back and tell us your results.
Thx for the avatar comment. :p

In addition to everyone else's suggestions, you may want to check out the following MSKB article...it may be of some help to you:
Icons in the Notification Area May Disappear If You Use High-Contrast Color Themes in Windows XP (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q321213) ;)
yea they are running, another way i can tell is like how i click on MBM 5, and my computer kinda acts like it's loading and usually it just highlights the icon.. but now it just kinda loads and sits there so i know for sure it's loaded (plus i checked all the alt ctrl del stuff) could it be a bug in XP? i might just reinstall windows or something... not being able to see my temperatures is kinda freaky =P
EDIT: new discovery, or something i just noticed.. haha, programs that i LATEr load show up there, like if i close AIM and restart it, or if i open WIN MX or something
edit: more proof that background programs are running... getright keeps downloading everything for me but i can't go into getright cuz the icon isn't there >_< prety annoying

I have a similar problem with Win2k.
Sometimes explorer crashes and if I click end program everything is fine except the icons near the clock are hidden. I never use em so I dont care hehe
