Interesting... my temps are almost identicle to yours (as are my system specs 1.8a@ 2.4

Only difference is my room temp is 24 and my CPU idle is 33(load is 38)

dansonang
06-21-02, 10:52 AM
My room is 29 degrees

mobo is 31degrees and cpu 40 degrees idle

Even when i surf net or listen to music heavily cpu temp only rises by 1 to 2 degrees. Strange

mobo still 31 degrees but cpu rose to 50 degrees when full load

I also use a 1.8a but not overclocked. I have 2 rear fans 2 front fans 2 side fans and a volcano 7+.

are my temp norm?

i dont own a p4 but i heard they have a throttle down mech in the cpu so if temps get to high they will lower the mhz to keep the heat under control. maybe 50 will cause ur cpu to run a little less mhz but i'm not a p4 expert so go to the intel forums and ask they should know wat temps r recommended.

Hey Dan, Go here
http://www.pickleloaf.com/exp/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=2
and download F@home. this is waht many of us use to get a temp at full load. It is also for a good cause. When I list my load temp is w/ Folding@Home running. You can also use prime95 and SETI(I reccomend F@Home. We are in 3rd place and trying hard to keep ahead of Team 64(rage)...we could use your P4 muscle!!!)
Make sure when you sign on that you chose Team # 32.
Post back w/ your temps if you decide to try this. I bet you will get a accurate and consistant load temp w/ F@Home running.

Athlon XP2000+ overclocked to 1750MHz
Idle: Room: 23 CPU: 57? Mobo: 29
Load: Room: 23 CPU: 61 Mobo: 31

The reason I'm not sure about the idle CPU temp is I've never run the machine idle after overclocking it -- it's always been running either SETI@Home or the Distributed.net client.

Cooling: Two generic case fans (came with the Antec case), 1 PSU fan, retail Athlon heatsink.

thank for the great response.

hey peter and others wat is that folding@home for and how to use it?

I downloaded it and this black screen came out and asked me to sign in. then my team number? I type in team32 or what?

what is prime 95 and SETi too?

folding at home is a cancer research thing. select a name you want and put team 32 then let it run ,it makes ur comp do 100% cpu usage and only uses free cylcees , u wont notice that its running except temp is a bit higher.

gl! hope to seeya on the team

seti is kinda same as folding except it is scanning the sky .... and lookin for extraterrestria.
neway, folding is better , neener neener. so get that.
prime 95 is just a cpu burn in utility and wont help wit nething , not really need to bother wit it.

why izzit that my load temp rises so high above idle when other do not?

danson:(

dansonang
06-21-02, 10:34 PM
The temp after the programcease is 47 degrees.(100% usage) If I leave it there for some time temp rose and stays between 50 to 52. (still 100% usage)
hmm....my room is 28 today, quite cool and my mobo always at 31 no matter idle or load (strange)
my cpu always idle between 40 and 41, even when i surf net and do alot of crappy stuff, temp still stays there.( strange)
Only when I play games temp shoots to 50 to 52, my lowest was 47 (only once)

y izzit that my load rises so high above my idle when I see some of yrs do not?

The funny thing about my CPU temps is that un-overclocked is only a degree or two lower. Also, the mobo in my computer uses the on-die temp sensor, so it'll read about 10-15 degrees higher than someone who's using a mobo with an on-board sensor.

Lt. Max
06-21-02, 10:48 PM
hey danzon sry i was away, u close it wit right click on it and quit. it starts up wit startup if u dont want that u can either uninstall in control panel addremove progs or if u wanna keep it but just not at startup then go start msconfig and then disable from there. ur temps arent that bad btw. what kind of cooling do you have?

dansonang
06-21-02, 10:57 PM
2 rear fans ( useful ) 8cm by 8cm

2 front fans ( quite useless as it does have the power to drive cool air far enough in to the system) 8cm by 8cm

2 side fans 10cm by 10cm(card cooler) which drive the most cool air thru my sysytem. ---> basically to cool my mobo, agp and pci

my mobo temp dropped by 5-6 degrees after using that. Video card temp i dun know how much it dropped as I dun have a sensor.

A volcano 7+ which I have yet to figure out how to remove even after Peter.A gave me soem tips....only if he could come my house and help me.... . I want to take it out to apply AS3 I got so fed up tht I sent a complaint letter requesting for help from TT.
...bUtstill no reply yet.

By the way, Peter can u show me some pics on how u remove it.

even when I am typing now my cpu temp is 40 degrees and mobo is 31 when room has risen by 1 degrees to 29.

that all.

 danson

Lt. Max
06-21-02, 11:03 PM
mm kinda hard to help like that, do you have the cfm ratings of the fans?
how big are the front fans?
u have powersupply pullin out air as well i presume.
the side fans.. are they on side of case like normal fans?
just blowin air in.. ?
ok the volcano7+ do u have any paste under it? how did u attach it?

o yea, what computer u have? amd or intel? and what model?

dansonang
06-21-02, 11:12 PM
front fans are 8 cm by 8 cm . My front and rear fans come together with the casing so i do not know their cfm but fr the side fans I know. it is 80 cfm.

I am using

-asus p4b 266-c motherboard
-intel 1.8a (not overclocked)
.....but I intend to overclock it to 2.4ghz..soon
-kingston 256mb DDRram

I got a real thin layer of thermal grease nder it. I wanted to reapply it with AS3 but that damn sucky clip is so stiff that I couldn't move it off that 478-socket.
as for how I attach it. I just sit that volcano one the socket and begin pushing those clips into the 478.

anyways I love leaving both the sides of my case open. It looks real sxy that way so I dun really care about exhaust fans removing build up of hot air. for open cases. Buildup of hot air can be removed faster.

Lt. Max
06-21-02, 11:30 PM
alright. dan
what case do you have? antec?
then the fans are about 30-35cfm, plus psu about 30 cfm so u have about 150 cfm wit that. so like 220 cfm comin in and just 90 going out..
o but when ur case is open i guess it doesnt really matter, just aim all the fans to blow towards cpu fan (not the rear ones i think) but one of the 10cm ones at least.

i would try flipping the front fans to pull air out.

the 2 80cfm fans they are both pushing air in and are they near each other? or in seperate places?

mm, i attached the ax478 wit clips too on my bros comp he has same comp and he gets 38.5 when folding.. and oc @ 2.4ghz..

oh, one thing that could help a lot, do you have a table fan? if you leave side of case open u can put that to blow toward it or right into it even if u dont care about the view.. dropped my friends xp2100 from 60 idle to 53 idle. :D damn amds so hot.

the clip, i think it has this one end, just like try to pull it up, like a switch kinda thing.. hard to explain, look at it its not that hard i think.

dansonang
06-21-02, 11:36 PM
nah. I dun have an antec. But mine is a cool looking case with badly positioned and some crap, brandless front fans. Those fans are blocked by the internal structures in the case.

what do u mean by flip the front case fans?

yeah it is hard. So stiff that it doen't move when I push it to get it out. I wonder If I could pluck out the socket tohether wif the HSF?
Anyone tried it ? This is an much easier method.

 danson

Lt. Max
06-21-02, 11:37 PM
hey theres a 3d model of putting the volc 7+ together on their website..

http://www.thermaltake.com/products/heatsink/v7plus.htm
click 3dview then install thing and u can choose like socket 478 then assemble

Lt. Max
06-21-02, 11:38 PM
oh please dont do that !!!
then u will ruin the mobo if u pull it out wit socket.

how many ppl in here think summmer temps suck! i do it is annoying it gets all hot then it gets all hotter with the computer on:rolleyes:  eh oh well

wiht the seti and folding thingy's do you have to be online for them to work or what?:eh?: :D :eh?: :D

u said u had like 40 idle. ? and when u put fold it went 52.. ?
my (bros) 1.8@2.4 folding does 38.5 c.. room temp 26.

now u confused me.. :S

dansonang
06-21-02, 11:54 PM
Lt i saw the 3d stuff. It does not help. those 4 metal things extending out fro0m the sides are the clips that hold the volcano to the socket. It is so stiff that I many fruitless attempts to get that thing out

Thermalright ax-7's with vantec stealth fans (21db, 27cfm), one on each of my dual duron 1.3's, on an asus a7m266-d (mpx chipset). Cpu temps: cpu0: 42 cpu1: 40.

if you are worried about slipping because of using a screwdriver then use a socket driver...i think that is what it is called... it looks like a screw driver but it is square so ou can attach a small socket to it. i suggest that every1 uses this to take off and put on hs's so that you never slip (happens VERY rarely) the reason it never slips is because it is round so you can go around the slip of metaland have much more control.

right now, room temp 27* via a rayteck temp gun. case 20,cpu 46 @ full load(folding in progress), via MBM5 . BTW comp is on the floor, in the shade, thats why case is lower than ambient. Just checked HSF with rayteck and it reads 43* MBM5 is reading good cause the gun can't read core, only HS temp.
