View Full Version : Alternatives to Gamespot Complete
Now that Gamespot has gone 'complete' (premium pay for content), I need another FREE source for my PC gaming news & reviews. Can anyone recommend other free web sites?

I geuss www.gamespy.com is an alternative. I personally don't like it much though.
GameForms (http://www.gameforms.com) is the spiritual successor of The GIA. But they're still rather fledgeling.
I use www.3dgamers.com for downloading stuff (might have pop-ups, I have them disabled). The FTP servers they list are not 100% reliable but one usually works at an acceptable speed.

Go to IGN.com, this is the BEST gaming site out there. It is free, except for the forums, which are now premium as well.

I agree. IGN. I have it set as my homepage. they do have an insider service, but most things are open to the unpaying public. The articles that ARE locked are only locked for about 5 days or so. Only problem is you are limited to looking at 5 pics a day. you can get around that though. Say i wanted to see some SOFII screen shots. I would click on one, and when it is loading and the actual address is displayed in the status bar at the bottom, hit print screen. go into paintbrush, and paste, you will now have a screenshot. looks at the address, and it will be something like:
http://pcmedia.ign.com/pc/image/soldieroffortune_041702_010.jpg
To look at different SOFII pics without adding to my tally, simply change the last number:
.......image/soldieroffortune_041702_010.jpg
becomes:
.......image/soldieroffortune_041702_013.jpg
this way, you are only limited to looking at screenshots for 5 different games in one day
works the same for videos
