I added a case fan to my system, and I upgraded from the retail heatsink/fan to the volcano 7+. I'm somewhat dissapointed in the results. I prefer to keep to the low settings because of noise, but when testing, the medium and high barely made any changes. On one occasion the temps were even higher...

I'm idling around 45-46c cpu, and 39-42 case temp. Those were roughly the temps I was getting with the retail fan/heatsink and no case fan. I know some of you will suggest it takes a few days for the AS3 to get its groove on, but its been running for about 3-4 days with the volcano.

This isn't really worth 40 bucks to me, I think I'm just gonna return it and drill more holes for case fans, does this seem like a reasonable idea?

Is anyone else disappointed with the volcano 7+?

I had major problems with my Volcano 7+ I had(as many others on this forum with P4's have too). The Volcano 7+ would not sit right and therefor would not make contact with the CPU. All that I know of could not get it to seat right. Thermaltake was very rude and would not do anything to correct this.

I have the V7+ and I was very happy with it. My temps were just fine. They were good enough to let me oc my xp2000 to 1860 at 1.95v. This was stable too. I dunno. What are your case temps? Room temps?

But you have the XP. There have been many problems with it and P4 boards.

I knew I was getting into trouble when they had one heatsink designed to work with both platforms.

I hope frys doesn't give me any trouble returning it...I still have the original packaging, I'll just have to use rubbing alcohol to get the AS3 off.

I think the retail will suffice. I'm going to use a 60-80mm adapter and use an 80mm exhaust fan and use that 60mm fan as an intake. Gonna have to borrow someones drill, but this way I'll save a few bucks for that water cooling system coming up!

Fry's will take it back. There policiy is 30 days I think. I get some of my stuff from fry's. I have returned 3 mobo's and 2 cpu's and no problem except once.

Ross, just curious..Why is your fsb set at 133 and your multiplier at 16?
What core voltage are running at?
And last but not least, what motherboard ?

The stock multi on a 1.6 is 16. Thats 100fsbx16=1600.

To answer the remaining questions is an Abit IT7 and the vcore 1.50 actual (1.525 in BIOS).

I got some of those black tubes for wire management, I may be wrong but I think its helping.

I'm definetly going to return the volcano 7+ next week. I'm gonna go with the extra circulation, that ought to be more than enough.
