I Formated my drive to do a clean W XP install. But since it boots from the CD and I don't have cd drivers loaded it won't boot. I found a W XP boot disk, but it didn't work. I also tried generic cdrom drivers I have on a disc.

Where can I find a bootdisk to load cdrom drivers to install XP?

Thanks

ok....
First do u have a CD-ROM drive?
If yes then go into Bios wen ur pc boos up by pressing "Del" on ur keybord!
This will open Bios which runs on ur mobo!
In there u open the "second" (maybe not apear like that on urs) link and there u change Boot device 1 o CD-Rom and for save keeping change all 3 if u wont!
Afer this is done u save bios and it will reboot and then u insert the cd! if ur to slow then just reboot agen! and i should read it now! if no then ui got no idea on wo to do?

or if you need a bootdisk, you can get one at bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) :burn:

This won't work because I'm doing a clean install. There are no cd drivers on the machine.

I have downloaded the MS 6 disk set 3 times from 2 different sites but it always fails.
I am still trying, but so far no luck. This seems to be a chronic problem with any of MS startup disks.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well all you need to do it boot from something like a win98 bootdisk which enables your cdrom drives.. :D

I'm curious, what sort of mobo do you have? I've never had a problem loading XP from the CDROM drive after formatting, on several different computers. Once it is set to boot form the CD, the XP disc immediately loads the necessary drivers. It prompts you if you need to load SCSI drivers.
When you get to where it says "press any key to boot from CD", what happens?

W 98 bootdisk doesn't work for W XP. I have now failed twice at disk 6 the error is:
Stop: c0000221 Unknown Hard Error
\systemRoot\system32\ntdll.dll"

Does anyone know what this means?

Thanks

Is this the full version of winXP or the upgrade?

It's full version.

I finally have it installing. I had to redownload several times. Disk 6 took 3 tries to get it error free. I have 24 minutes to go, but that doesn't mean it will work. I'll let you know.

It's working. I don't know if the problem was bad downloads or bad disks.

Thanks for the help.

Next time u install
boot form a 98 boot disk IT WILL WORK even if your HD is formatted
it will load the drivers and TELL u what the drive letter is for the cd rom

switch to that drive then run setup.exe (i think that will load it ) if not type dir to find out

I tried to use the W 98 startup disk. It didn't work. I don't know why.

What motherboard do you have?

CD-ROMS nowdays for the most part are ATAPI and a very large majority of motherboards (thinking posts P200 days or so) support booting from CDROM.

That would really be the easiest.

I think the point is being mised. I did a clean install. There were no CD Drivers loaded to boot drom the CD rom. The W98 and several other startup disks didn't work. Dos CD drivers didn't work.

MS has a 6 disk set for installing XP. Initially it didn't work either. That's when I posted. After several attempts it worked. I don't know if the problem was due to bad disks or bad downloads.
