View Full Version : How do u OC this?
2.2ghz P4, ABIT TH7ll, Samsung RDRAM 512, the rest i dont think matter. But they are... SBL, 80gig WD, dialup modem, cd-rw-dvd, 10/100nic, ABIT GF4 ti4200 64meg.
OK I clearly dont know what im doing cuzz i cant OC this chip at all. upping the FSB and multipliers gets me a blue screen during XP loading. I dont think the chip is locked is it? I didnt read that part. some1 out there give me some info. What setting in bios to i change to OC it. thx
this is a popular chip and MOBO so im sure alot of u know what to do, im just clueless right now.

The multiplier is locked but the front side bus isn't. What did you try setting the front side bus to? Also make sure that speed error hold in the BIOS is off and use the default multiplier.
i think the multiplyer is set to 22 factory. I started out slow 105

Yeah, it's locked alright. Increase the FSB a little bit at a time and when you get the BSOD bump up the voltage some. Every time you do though, go into CMOS and watch the temps for a little bit. Your chip will throttle itself down and won't destroy itself but you want to keep it cool too. I'm assuming that it's a 2.2A CPU with the Northwood .13 micron core. If this is correct then you'll get a great overclock out of it. Each mhz the FSB is increased will give you 22mhz on the processor's internal clock. Have some fun with it.
There are some great beginner guides on the front page that I suggest you check out before going further though. Good luck...
U all cant touch my OCing skillz, I got this bad boy 2.2ghz a whooping 22mhz more. whooo!!! 101x22 u like that? 2222mhz yes!!! im satisfied with my OCing.
ok seriously what the heck is going on? I cant get it pass 101fsb? is this a joke? the multiplyer is on 22 thats the defult right? my vcore is 1.5default and can go as high as 1.65v I just dont get it, can some1 give me a print screen of there bios or something. help badly needed.
btw i think the 2.2 only comes in the northwood.

hey dude put ur vcore to 1.65 leave it there and let it burn in at 100 fsb for a week or so u should b able to go 110 fsb then or higher.and what are yhour temps? mab ur blue screening cause ure temps are high.. what hsf do u got?
stock HSF cpu is 98f ambient is 82f IDLE. load is 10f more
leave my vcore at 1.65 for a week? will that break it in faster so i can open the baby up? are u sure? i thought u can OC it right from the start. It seems when people get the 2.26 they OC it instantly.

Yeah, it's burning in. Vcore as high as possible and FSB as low as possible is the general rule. You can OC right out of the box usually but you seem to be having trouble with the chip... if it's a bummer chip, burning in will improve it some, in which case you can tell that you got a bummer chip and get a better one. If burning in doesn't help the OC then you can stop messing with the chip and focus your efforts in other areas.

And if it's a problem with something else in your system (e.g. a hardware conflict or something else) that 2.26 will not overclock any better. Try and make sure it's the processor before you RMA it. Does it work fine at stock speeds?
holy moly, im not sure what it is the mobo or chip or whatever. But another friend of mine just bought the same system. 2.2ghz abit th72, I just finished loading windows on this and i OCed it too. And guess what no problems at all. This chip that i just turned on has been running for 2 hrs and i used the burnIN wizard for about 30mins. So far with the Factory HSF i got the speeds up to 2518mhz at 1.54vcore. All i have to say is freaking sweet man!!! I'm running freaking hot as heck, 122idle about almost 140 load. Imma put a better HSF on it maybe the Volcano7+ and see if i can get it cooler and faster. Im pretty sure the 1.625 volts wont be enough to hit 3ghz, so a volt mod will be needed. I guess that first chip i put together was bad, not sure i haven't had the time to check yet. But boy im having fun with this second chip my friend bought. after running for weeks i bet it could push further with same HSF, just gotta break the baby in. O well, sucks to be that first chip.

I would use an Alpha Heatsink for the pentium 4...I forget the model name but the alpha is a lot better than a Volcano 7+
