I just thought of this recently. Does anyone remember onsale.com?
It used to be an auction site like ebay, but sold computer parts + other stuff wholesale really cheap also. Then, it was bought by egghead I think, and they started having the best deals on the web for computer parts. Then when I checked a long time ago they became affiliated with amazon.com and lost the egghead name.

Is it possible that newegg.com is the "new egghead".com? They both have had incredible deals, stock, and service.

Does anyone know this?

Thought about that too, but I'm not sure. Egghead went out of service in January 2001 and Newegg sprang up in February, just a few weeks later.

Could be a possibility. Afterall, it would be the "New Egg" would it not?

I think it is the "New Egg Head"

Looks like the same Idea....both sell computer parts, practly same names, and hey both have(had) great prices....

I miss Egg Head but better has come :D

hmm this is interesting, have you also noticed that the site layout is kind of the same? With the tabs at the top

hmmm.... Was egghead bought by amazon, or just become affiliated with amazon? Maybee the egghead people didn't like the way their company was going, so they went out and started a new egghead (Newegg).

I doubt it because Egghead was bought by Outpost which as far as I know sord of absorbed most of egghead into their site. Outpost has now sold out to Fry's. Probably started up to replace egghead though although I think Egghead was more comparable to a buy.com than Newegg.

Newegg uses a standard web store interface. Egghead was much more professional looking, though Newegg was much better.

This just from Newegg as I was curious enough to send an email asking that very question:

"Dear Customer:
Sorry to disappoint you but NewEgg has nothing to do with Egghead. No one who started that company started this company.
Thank You. "

Don't exactly know what they expected me to be disappointed about but I guess that answers the question.
