Hi guys and gals,
it's me again:D
My question today is:
What would you get??(I know, you would get a Geforce4 Ti 4600 or something similar, but unfortunately I don't have the money for such a card and I can get either of the mentioned cards for around 50$ +-10$ +shipping; and REMEMBER, I live in Germany and here the hardware prices are much higher than in the U.S.; it's only for my secondary system)
Well, I have the choice between:
Hercules 3D Prophet 2 Ultra with DVI and TV-out (4ns RAM)
or
Gainward Geforce2 Ti/450 Golden Sample with 3.8ns RAM with TV-out !!
So which one do you think would be better for my system(see signature below)??
Thanks in adavance!
Regards
Ingo

The Ti, hands down! Gainward makes great cards, and with 3.8ns memory its bound to overclock better than the older Ultra model. The gpu on Ti's is a bit newer and I think smaller. The difference between the cards at stock is generally 1 or 2% in favor of the Ultra, but when OC'd the Ti takes the Ultra to school!

Thanks, that's just what I thought.
I think I'll try to get the Gainward card, but if I can get the Hercules, let's say 10-15$ cheaper, then I'll take the Hercules Geforce2 Ultra.;)

Yes, get the gainward. I have one, and it oc's very, very, very well. Gotta love the core shrink. What is stock speed on gf2 ti anyways? Mine is at 305/520, and has been for so long I can't remember stock speed :)
This is without any extra cooling btw.
Sorry but i believe the "ultra" is better than the "Ti"
Especially if it has Infineon chips on (like mine did)...and could compare with a GF3Ti200 when o\c
Proove me wrong

Well, a gf2 ultra has a stock speed of 250/460, which is higher than that of the Ti, but it usually only overclocks to around 265/490 without a cooling upgrade - whereas the Ti, because of it's new process ( .13 micron I think, as opposed to the .18 of the ultra), the Ti series regularly reaches 300+ core, and memory of more than 500...especially in his case, where the memory chips are 3.8ns, which should be good for at least 526. Sounds to me like the Ti will give you an extra 35mhz core, and 36 mhz memory. Not to mention that it runs cooler and with less power (see core shrink).

Also, my gainward gf2 ti card compares easily with a gf3 ti200, even when clocked at 270/480 or so. It surpasses it in quite a few tests at 305/520.

Thanks again! I didn't expect so many replies!
As I already said, I think it'll totally depend on the price(it's on eBay, that's why I can't tell you what the price will be in the end, but I won't pay more than 55$ for the Hercules Ultra and 60$ for the Gainward Ti).
So let's see! BTW, the Ultra auction ends first, so if I can get it for cheap, the Gainward won't be an option anymore.:D
Do you think that the voltage mod that is described here:
http://www.xbitlabs.com/video/geforce2-overclocking.html
will work for the Ultra and the Ti, the same way??? That's to say, finding the two voltage regulators and soldering two resistors(one for RAM-voltage and the second for GPU-voltage)??
Since you live in Germany....keep in mind that the Gainward department there has special offers on these cards...take a look,it might worth it....especially since they give you a warranty.

Thanks TASOS that's really interesting! Could you please give details??? I couldn't find the special offers you mentioned!
Thanks in advance
Ingo
Update: Well now I found what you were talking about, but 99,-EUR for the card is a bit too much(I could get a Radeon 8500LE for about 130,-EUR which would be much better)!
I would pay max. 75,-EUR + shipping for the Gainward GF2 Ti/450!
