Ok i live in toronto and am using the rogers high speed internet
it has a download rate of 3000kbs however now they have a new program called high speed lite it is almost half the price of internet but the catch is you only get 120kb vs the 3 mb so my question is, is it worth to down grade to save 25 $ a month?

BTW.. I am a constant downloader and i was wondering if it would hinder my dl speeds... right now i get 30 - 200 kb dependent on the server...

Well, you will only be able to download at 15kb/s with the lite version.

That's harsh.......compared to the 375kb/s yo uwere getting with the full blown cable access.

So, it depends what your cash flow is like, if you can afford the regular, then stick with it, if not, maybe take the hit and get the lite version.

BTW, this should be in the Internet and Networking baord...:)

I just went on their high speed. I started downloading at 300 k a second 45 k upload to find out 3 days after i got it installed they capped the connectio i can only send at 21 k upload and 162 k download. I was mad. I dont know much about the light but unless its just my connection your not going to get close to the expected speeds on the high speed service.

Gandalf, what are your speeds like (if your on rogers that is)

For some reason i think high speed will implement a transfer cap like sympatico did.

sorry for posting in the wrong section...

Couldnt you just "uncap" the modem if that happens? Besides that is it only 15 kb! thats like saying go back to dial up...

Uncapping cable/dsl is illegal and wrong.

The thing is, a flat rate is a dumb idea... in the beginning it was good, because only people with a decent sized bandwidth requirement would sign up for it.

Nowadays, everyone is on cable or DSL, even people who check their email once a week, and never do anything else. This "lite" plan is for them, to save them money.

A statistic I heard somewhere was that 1% of cable users use 16% of the network's entire bandwidth. So 1 out of 100 people are constantly downloading, while the most of people are either occasionally downloading, or never downloading.

Uncapping steals bandwidth away from everyone, it's like buying 1 tomatoe, and taking 10 tomatoes.

Why tomatoes? I dunno...

I would go with the full plan, if you are a constant downloader, but if you can't afford it, then suffer with lite or dialup.

*edit* sentance structure
