Hey all,
I’m nearly finished spraying my case!
Please excuse the top bezel, its not finished yet!
The drives will be sprayed in black and gold to match the rest of the case!

Another not, ignore the mess of wires!!!! :D
If you think those wires are bad you should see inside the PC!

How long that take? Did you paint the inside to?

Oops, i was just thinking i should ahve told ye how it was done, great minds think alike!

Took about 3 weekends to do it!

Started with a bog standard white chieftec.

I used 3 tins of grey primer, 5 tins of black and half a tin of Gold(so far, i will have used another tin of black by the time the drives are done!)

I used plastikote auto paint, the one with acrylic+ fromula.

I more or less followed the Case Painting Guide (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70812) but i could only get as far as 1200grit paper!

A lot of cutting was done using simonez cutting compound. It was slow at first but once it begins to flatten out it really shins up.

A few coats of MAX WAX, dust shows up lovely after this, and bob's your uncle.

I hope to do the top bezel and drive covers this weekend.
All spraying was done in my home garage! Used 3M Air Mask as i got stoned when i did the first panel!!! :D

I masked of the grill with 3M tape and sprayed it gold!
I think it turned out fairly well my self!

Buttons and side handle were taken apart and sprayed seperatly!!!

*EDIT*

I haven't painted the inside, i don't think i will, no window!
I might spray the back of the PC gold as it is just metal at the moment!!!!

*EDIT*

Hope this helps.

looks really nice!
i like the black gold combo.
the back should be done after the drives
and i wouldnt risk putting in a window when you have a finish like that!(if u where thinkin about it)

There is no window going into the case.
I don't really like them and my cables are, hmmm we'll say a tad untidy!!!!

I got my new digi cam last night, i just had to get some pic's up!

Thanks!

I was thinking of leaving the back till last! Lot of work to take every thing apart!

I'm also working on a Diode bus at the moment to control my fans so that is taking up all my spare time! (Lots of soldering!)

Will post pics of that once its finished! Lot's of Bloo leds in it! 20Bloo nad 10Red leds in total!

As regards the gold, i was a bit nervous at first but it turned out nice if i may say so myself!

Silver and chrome is every where!!!

The only problem is the flakes in the gold seem to go every where!!!!

Wow man, that is great! You should get some more pictures too! I am looking to paint my charcoal Antec case. You've just inspired me! How much did it cost to paint the whole thing?

dizzy_g
06-26-02, 10:49 AM
Cost ran to about €40 that's about $40,
If you are in the US you'll probably do it for less, we get ripped off on every thing like paint and even sand paper in Ireland!

The biggest cost is time!!!!

Thanks! :D

I'll post more pictures when i have better lighting! (that was tken with just my bedroom light on! Very dim!) and once i have the drive covers and the top bezel done!!!!

Thanks!!!!!

A funny thing i noticed about it last night is if you leave a DVD case on it the soft covering kinda gets sucked onto the surface of the case, it's that smooth!!!!!

It's a huge differance from the big beige lump that used to sit there!

What grit paper and paint did you use?

dizzy_g
07-01-02, 03:20 AM
Thanks,

I used plastikote auto paint, the one with acrylic+ fromula.
Black 100 & Arizona Gold.

I more or less followed the Case Painting Guide but i could only get as far as 1200grit paper!

I started with 600 then went to 800, and used 1000 on the first black layer, then gave it a shot of 1200, another coat of black, made this one nice and thick! Out with the cutting compound and rub rub rub rub rub! It took a while for te cutting compound to really start taking affect but after the 3rd pass you can see the results!!! :D
There are a few areas i must go over again at some stage!

Ye will be glad to hear the drives are no longer white!

I will have new pics up tomorrow and hopefully a new website!!!
