View Full Version : direction of fans?
I'm installing 5 case fans, i know which imma put exhaust, and which i'm gonna put intake, but which direction (not direction for intake/exhaust, but rather which direction the fans move?)
Also, does this apply to the fan on the heatsink (i'm gonna have it sucking air from the heatsink cause i have an alpha 8942, but which direction should the fan be blowing?)
and also, if it does matter which way it's blowing, and if i have 2 right next to eachother, what should i do?
i'm not real clear on a few of the questions you are asking, the wording is confusing.
but i think one of the things you are asking is how do you know which way a fan will blow? usually a fan will have somewhere on the frame an arrow that denotes blowing direction. alternately - the side that has the motor casing is the direction that fan will blow...
hope that is something you were asking...
dew.
no, that's not whwat i was askign. I now know a good way to explain it. On the fan, there are 2 arrows, one arrow in which direction the air will blow, and the other arrow in which direction the actual fins will spin.
What i'm asking, is does it matter in which way the actual fins turn, and if they do, how should i make them spin when 2 fans are right next to eachother.
I hope this clarifies it well enough.

You won't like my answer--It all depends on how you want it setup. First, you want the air to flow--meaning coming in one way and out the opposite. Your HSF will be sucking you said, so your intake should be the closest to your cpu. Your exhaust the farthest away. Make sure your fans are not fighting each other for air---two side-by-side fans should blow the same direction unless isolated from each other(such as by ducting). As you can see, there are quite a few ways all of this can be accomplished. Also, do you want your hot exhaust air to be blowing toward you or away from you? Can you place fans in many different areas or are you limited by your case design? A blowhole at the top or side are also options to consider. You're going to have to experiment abit and see what works best in your situation--Have fun!!!

There's no "What if" because the fan will only spin in that direction and the fins are what pushes out the air.
Use the arrows to see where it pushes.
Just remember:
Front Bottom - Intake
Top and Back - Exhaust
So it's most likely the fans beside each other will push the same way.

I guess I misunderstood your question too. It really doesn't matter if the two fans spin in different directions--the air that they move will be going in the same direction-that's all that matters.

Yes, but however, i can still rotate it 90 degrees and having the arrow facing down, to the right, to the left, or upwards. That's what i was trying to ask, i know it wouldn't make much of a difference, but i just wanted 2nd opinion.

Right-no difference on how a fan is mounted in relation to the arrow that indicates it's direction of revolution. You anly have to be concerned with which way the fan pushes the air. I hope this is what you've been trying to ask--if not ask again.
