Can Wireless Transmissions Be Encrypted For Security And Against Theft Of Signal?

After reading an artical about people marking Wi-Fi spots around town, I was wondering about my home. I would like to start using wireless in my home and want security of my info going back and forth as well as not having someone linking up for a free ride.
Can I encrypt my signal? :confused:
Any comments on 802.11b?

802.11b has encryption options. The most popular being WEP. That is Wired Equivalent Privacy. BUT, with being the popular thing on the street, it also has had it's flaws discovered. There are other options also.
