Bear with me, folks. This is gonna wander a bit.

I was recently forced to replace my motherboard from a SuperMicro P6SBA to a GigaByte 7ZX. I also replaced my processor, going from a Slot 1 PIII 500MHz to a Socket A AMD Duron 800. In fact, since everyone asks for it, here's my setup:

GigaByte 7ZX
Duron 800 AMCA
Voodoo 3 3000
384MB PC100 (3x128MB sticks)
Creative Labs Live! Platinum
NetGear FA311 10/100.

I'm running Windows 98SE. I had some problems with the new mobo not loading all my system resources, and some conflicts with the old system resources, so I removed everthing, and rebooted. They all loaded up fine, no problem. Everything except the video is working right. Here's what's going on:

When I boot up Windows, everything is in 640x480, 16 colors. My video display adapter is the standard VGA adapter. When I look up my hardware, the Voodoo 3 is there, but it has a yellow exclaimation mark over it. So I check out the properties, and it says that the resources for the Voodoo is currently being used elsewhere. Big suprise, it's being used by the standard VGA adapter. And under Display Properties, I can't change it over to the Voodoo, since it's resources are being used.

So, how can I keep my system from booting up with the standard VGA adapter? 640x480 at 16 colors gets old REAL quick.

Go:
regedit.exe
[H_KEYLOCALMACHINE]-[System]-[ControlSet]-[Services]-[Class]-[Display]-
CLEAR OUT ALL 000X (0001,0002,0003) EVERYTHING HERE.
Look aslo at 3d accelerators at
[H_KEYLOCALMACHINE]-[System]-[ControlSet]-[Services]-[Class]-[3D accelerators]
REBOOT. Try to reinstall drivers and enjoy!
I think that is.

Hey, thanks for that! I hadn't tried to reinstall the Voodoo drivers yet, since I was working on it so late at night. But I'll also check out that regedit. 640x480 with 16 colors gets old REAL quick.

And thanks for the response. I was starting to think I was a thread killer.

Should I clear out everything under [3D accelerators] too, like I should clear everything out of [Display]?

Well, I reinstalled the drivers for my Voodoo, and that seemed to do it. It's all good, and Wally is a happy man!
