the questions in the title, lookin for imput.
i am shopping for the gainward gf4 ti 4200 as well.
they don't seem to overclock as high but still outperform the competition.
i guess better parts make the difference.
One question.... who's Grainwood :P

yeah i had a chuckle about that too :p
i've been hearing that abit has one of the best if not the best gf 4 ti cards out. i tried to get one of the abit cards, but everytime i go to order they're sold out. so i got the evga t1 4200 and it overclocks like a mutha!!!!!!! (i recommend it). i have been reading here and there throughout the internet that the chaintech g4's are really excellent, for the price, as well.
the abit siluro ti4200 64mb maxxed out at 290mhz gpu on an anandtech review. the gainward 340.

i can't even turn up my powerstrip high enough to max the memory overclocking capability on me evga 4200. i went up to 310/594 and then it locked up. so i lowered it to 300/594 and it went smooth but had relics. so i played with it a while and now have it running ata safe 290/551 until i get my ram sinks. i hope that helps. it's still super smokin' fast though. :burn:

with the gain wood, does it matter what type of 4200 i get, some have the standard moniter plug others have the multiple plugs.

g a i n w a r d
or call them cardexpert either is fine.
and all the gainward 4200's perform about the same whether one has just the vga or the others have a million things you can plug into them... the performance is still about the same.
the only difference is the amount of memory. the smaller memory benches faster on a few things but the larger memory kills the smaller in texture rich benches.
The Abit Siluro is supposed to be good for overclocking, but you should use AS3 or another good thermal paste and remove the crappy pad if you expect to get higher than ~290/~580.

in an anandtech review the abit siluro was the lowest overclock gpu-wise (290). the memory went up to 600 w/ no probs however.
There have been other reviews of the Siluro that got up to 300/600 + and I talked to a person on [H]ardForums that got his up to 300/600 with "horrible case airflow" just by putting AS3 on.
