I got an XP 1800+ from Newegg late last week. Didn't even look at it until today, so doubt if you'd get some from the same batch if you ordered now. Check out this pic... First off, it's an AGOGA-Y, which is nice, but when I went to unlock this guy, I discovered it had NO PITS TO FILL! I know it's not cool to blow your own horn, but hey, man... this is great! Just had to share it with someone who cares. (that just leaves all you guys, my OC buddies!) ...

So, there. If no one cares, so be it, just needed to share. :) Thanks for lookin. :p

I heard something about that AMD was going to
stop this pit thing. But I thought it was only on
the T-Breds and on...

Do the T-Breds have pits? Anyone?

Nice Find DmdStar!
*Is it me or do I not see 1 single bride closed? ;)

Look's like that cpu skiped the burn station. It should be factory unlocked.

The t-breds do have lazer cut's but not on the L1's
The cpu above looks like it has no lazer cuts on any of the bridges, very odd. I wonder what kind of default mulitplier and vcore it gives?

Oh yeah, I got an XP 1900+ AGOGA the same day that does have pits. :( The worst part is, I killed it cuz it's a greeney and you have to scrape off the coating... well, I scraped too far and exposed the traces... 6 tries and no go on unlocking that one... Guess it's getting donated. I'm sure this 1800 will do me good.

Anyone... can I expect the same kind of overclock out of an unlocked 1800 as I would a 1900 with the same core? Just wondering. If not, I think I'll keep trying with the 1900. Durned thing! This hobby'll be the death of me yet! LOL

Thanks.

That's right. NO laser cuts at all... I had to do a double-take myself.

It loads up as an 1800+ default... it is not factory unlocked. I couldn't move multi anywhere. :( Oh well, still have to connect the dots, but heck of a lot better this way. hehe...

Man sorry to hear that but to tell you the truth, I think that's a myth about sanding the clear coating off! I know it's too late now, but in the future don't worry about it!

Great score with the unlocked chip though!

Thanks for that heads-up. I'll just go for it next time. :(

BUT! ... I unlocked this 1800 in 2 TRIES! ... that beats my record of 5 tries on my last chip. I'm writing this on a puter that thinks it's runnin' a 2100+. Wahooa again!

Thanks for giving me a place to celebrate.

If the L1's have no lazer cuts and the bridges are below the surface then how did they get cut? One of life's little mystery's I guess.

I guess... It sure wasn't unlocked tho. That was my first thought, and I tried, but no go. :( Was a dang easy unlock tho. hehe...

It's not, I assure you. That's the only reason I can come up w/ for my Greenie not unlocking.

Weird! I've unlocked 5 of the green's with no problem!

Did yours have the plastic-like coating over the top? I think maybe some do and some don't. Let us know as this may shed some light on the subject.

Sure did! I had an old brown 1800 to compare them with. There was a noticeable difference between the two. Actually I like the coating better, because it was so much easier to wipe Artic Silver off.

actually, with the coating on, why don't you just try scraping directly on the dots and nowhere else?

I was trying, but my knife was too big (using an exacto knife instead of a pin.

Now that I know I didn't even need to do that... ARGH! ... oh well... at least I know for next time.

Did you try to up the multiplier before you touched the chip? It is a good possibility that you may have received an MP in error. When you may have tried to unlock it and you shorted the bridges out and the second attempt was done correctly. If you did not try to get all the mults before you tried to unlock th chip then I suggest you yank the HS and wipe off what you did and try it untouched. If it is easy to unlock (use the traditional pencil trick) then this is not too much of a hassle for you then. Was the chip retail?

Does anyone notice that this is an old stepping? Why would AMD still produce old steppings? Not only that but why would AMD apply a new method of manufacturing (the bridges being un-lasered on an older stepping?), was this in the works long ago and AMDhas just now decided to release these chips?

I am willing to bet that NewEgg needed to clear out some MP stock and you were the lucky guy who got an MP for the price of an XP.

Dont rejoice just yet. I too have an AGOGA and it is a dog compared to my AGKGA. But 2100+ speeds are good so far, see how much higer you can get it.

DmdStar

That was my first thought that it was an MP, and I did try all the mults, from 6 through 13 and only 11.5 worked (like it's supposed to). So, it really does act like an Athlon. I can't explain why... Oh well.

actually i think it is a mp, becuase the top line is ax1800 not axp1800, then it says something like ax1800m..something...

No the top line is the same as the XP I'm looking at right now. The second line does very some but I doubt that line has anything to do with the XP-MP issue.

so how would you unlock a chip that has no gaps?

There are many ways: my favorite method is a rear/window defogger kit. Mechanical pencil can be used also.

I just used conductive grease... Usually fill the gaps first, but just skipped that step.

actually if you look closely, i bet it is factory unlocked.... becuase they have to burn these to lock them...

Might want to get that dust off your monitor. I think you're seein' things. :p Anyhoo... got it runnin' unlocked. Just for fun, maybe I'll wipe the stuff off later and try again. HA! Yeah...

well if you look closely, you can see the traces... it's the same gold color as the bridge... LOL

Yup, looking closer at it, that's what it is. It has TINY grooves, but nowhere near the pits of normal ones.
