Im takeing a survey of home automation projects

so far ive got my home network with wireless
i have a project in the works to use an old clunker for caller id and voice messge boxes

and i was thinking about having some sort of computer controled thermostat ( i dont know how to do it exactly)



anyother ideas youve been thinking of doing around your house

and a breife explanation of how you would make your project happen

Alarm system, video survelance, and lighting. You could also interface with one of those home weather stations. Example, your away on vacation, a huge storm comes up, winds atart to gust around 60 mph, the house automaticly closes all the shutters and sends you an E-mail telling you what it did.
 
As far as I know home automation is still rather expensive to do. Besides you either have to run wires or use RFI wich is even more expensive
 
yea i wanted to keep away from rewireing


anyone have any idea how i couuld do like a security cam that i can look at threw my network or something
