E6400 VID 1.325 Worth OC?

Hey,

I have the scythe ninja installed on it. It is still running stock speed. The airflow is really bad; there is no cable management possible. It idle at 30C so I guess it is pretty hot.
I was wondering if it could worth to overclock it a bit. Maybe to 2.8 or 3GHz.
 
If anything, manually set the VID as the vcore in the BIOS and overclock as far as you can on that. My E6600 back in the day could push 3.2ghz on stock volts alone. It shouldn't do that much damage to your temps either.
 
give it a shot.... the 65nm c2d's clocked pretty good, and undervolted ESPECIALLY WELL.

My E6600 (stock 2.4ghz, 1.325v) would do 3ghz @ 1.20v, 3.4 @ 1.34v ... even got her to 4ghz at one point... but it wasnt stable.

My E4300 is a gem (stock 1.8ghz, 1.325v) would do stock 1.8ghz @ 0.9875v, 3ghz @ 1.25v and 3.2ghz at stock volts, never did play much higher than that as i always used it where i wanted to keep power usage way down.
 
Definitely worth a try. My E6300 is pretty good, but I haven't had a chance to OC the E6400 yet. The E4300 I had sucked big time, it couldn't do over 390MHz FSB...

Nice to know! What is the max safe temp and voltage (I can google that but... always simpler to ask) ;)?
I see 1.623vcore but coming from MattNo I'm not quite sure every cpu could go that far (mine has 2-3 years old)!
 
Their VID range goes up to 1.5v, so up to that is safe. Tcase on them is 61.4C, so I would say ~70C core temps should be safe for 24/7 use.

+1... typical max 24/7 limits were just what was said... 1.5-1.55v and 70-80*C core temps.


This is not to say that higher voltages rnt allowed... i had my e6600 up to 1.65v to get the magic 4ghz.... but that was a VERY short time.
