1) 2-2-2-5 timings or close to it

2) able to OC to about 250

3) cheap as possible

Still havent decided between 2x256MB or 2x512MB. I have been out of building computers for a while. Would you say 512MB is an absolute minimum for a gaming machine?

2x512 would is getting to be pretty standard for gaming, with only 512 total getting to be the low end. Currently the best cheap solution for 250ish with tight timings is twinmos speedpremium ram with winbond UTT chips. Newegg sells the speed premiums for 79ish per 512 stick. While these are not guaranteed to be the utt chips, most seem to be getting them. The disadvantage to memory based on the UTT chips is that they need 3.2 volts and up to perform well.

Take a look around, theres at least two threads here about the winbond UTT and twinmos speed premiums here. Also theres a monster 70+ page thread over at xtremesystems.

the utt(running at 3.4/3.5 volts) is by far the cheapest like hels said. then there is the crucial ballistix pc4000. it will run 2.5.2.2.5 to 250/260 (300.00) a gig. lastly the bh5/bh6 stuff which will cost about 300.00 plus for a set that runs 250 ( used) plus it needs 3.2+ volts
