At the voltage screen in your bios you could try and jiggle the main atx plug until the numbers get closer to what you'd like. I've seen mine go to 11.2v if I jiggle the wrong way and it shuts off..

I did a similar comparison a few years ago. To run my old e8600 or a Q6600. The e8600 at 4.5 or 4.6 was almost as strong as a stock Q6600.

I had a i7 970 that was able to run mems at 1066 all stock, but the CPU only did 4.1 with 1.4v, 4.2 barely came with 1.55v. It was able to run mems at 1200mhz. My x5690 can do 4.8, but it cant run...

With my old e8600 on my rampage formula, was good for 550 fsb 24/7, but needed 1.55 or 1.575 on the nbv. I wish I still had that CPU for times like this :D

Edit: it could have been 1.6 nbv too..

Bclk was/is the way to go...
