What he said. Also for comparison, my desktop is running two Xeon e5430's at stock clocks and it is turning out about 20k ppd. The other 10 or so coming from my c2d dell studio xps and i5 machine.

Well, bummer, I just tried running it with the top panel off and a blower in there to keep the temps down and the 40mm fans from spooling up as fast. Unfortunately I learned having the case closed...

I don't see why not! I've got the Intel Xeon equivalent of your Q9650, except mine only runs at 2.66Ghz and they are doing pretty good right now!

I just run the SMP client with the -advmethods...
