Something I forgot to mention is you may want to go with a Samsung 840 EVO over the Pro. Evos are newer and cheaper for almost the same performance.

Also just so you know, most Bluray drives do...

You can pick parts based on color if you want to but choosing parts based on the best price/performance ratio is the smart way to go in...

Just get a Noctua NHD14 or a Phanteks TCP14HC178BC3 or whatever it's called. The Phanteks with 2 towers and 2 140mm fans.

No need to change CPUs. You won't see a performance difference.

You guys are talking about the LGA 1366 quad core Xeon 5620 right?
That'd be a sweet CPU for a casual use PC. Give it to your dad. Don't give him a cruddy APU.

It doesn't matter which controller the SSD has. Any SATA 1,2 or 3 device will work on a SATA 3 port.

You should really look at a 7950/7970/R9 280X for the GPU. Even ditch the SSD if you have to.

You're suggesting an obsolete CPU and a $170 board?
You could put a 3570K on a $130 board and still overclock to the moon on air.

Don't recommend outdated equipment. If he goes Intel he should go...

An APU would most certainly bottle neck a high end graphics card. APUs have almost no cache and that really hurts them on the CPU end of things.

If you look at benchmarks with high end GPUs, they...

The z87 pro 3 is a four phase motherboard. The ASUS Z87-A is an 8 phase motherboard. I'd trust the latter a lot more to power my cpu. You don't NEED beefy VRM with Z87 but I think it's still nice to...

Agreed. It's like saying your friend's son doesn't need a new pet because he already has a cobra. Should he really have a cobra? It could bite and kill him. Why not switch to a nice, reliable kitten....

I mean, JUST because it's 199, yes, buy it. It's not a massive upgrade over your 2500K but it's enough of an upgrade, and it's an amazing deal. Go for it!

A 4770K system will beat an 8350 system at those tasks.
Also, a few things for you to consider:

An 8350 needs a $200 board to overclock to the moon. A 4770K needs a $130 board. So really, the...
