In fact, that should work for anything 8500 and up. For older ATI cards, the built-in drivers for xorg seem to work pretty well. -- Paul
Just because the drivers are easy to install, does not mean that they will work well.

For instance, a ti4200 outpaces an x800 in Linux running UT2k4.
