AMD A4-5300 Trinity - FM2

Hi guys,

I currently got a computer with a AMD CPU Athlon II X2 Dual Core 250 and I'm currently looking at getting a AMD A4-5300 Trinity.

My question is, does anyone know much about this CPU and how much of a proformance increase I should see?

I'm intending on putting that CPU in a GA-F2A75-D3H with 8 GB of RAM (Kingston DDR3 8GB (2x4GB) PC3-14900/1866 CL9 HyperX Ram)

Thankyou for the feedback. I dont know if I should have posted this, I wont be useing the onboard graphic as I got an gigabyte GV-R5670OC that work quite well.
 
Passmark Bench used by many large company buyers to compare cpu power/performance.

AMD Athlon II X2 250 Score =1748 Rank = 670 27.32 $63.99
AMD Athlon II X2 250 2 / 2 3 GHz 2 MB 45 Watt

A4-5300 Passmark Score = NO A4-5300 was tested.
AMD A4-5300 2 / 2 3.4 GHz 3.6 GHz 1 MB 65 Watt

The A6-5400K was tested.
AMD A6-5400K APU Score = 1888 Rank = 621 26.98 $69.99
AMD A6-5400K 2 / 2 3.6 GHz 3.8 GHz 1 MB 65 Watt

For that little bit of apparent difference, I certainly would not buy an APU and motherboard to gain very little in extra performance. You could probably overclock the Athlon 2 250 a few 100Mhz and be ahead of the A4-5300.

HD 5670 uses DDR5 memory and is a better card than the 6670, which is renamed a 7670.
I should have checked earlier, Trinity A4-5300 is one piledriver module, at 3.4/3.6 GHz.
Athlon II 250 is a 3.0 GHz CPU.

ANANDTECH Bench comparison, best match is 255 vs A8-5600K
A8-5600K is two piledriver modules instead of one.
Single threaded benches should be similar, multithreaded the A8 will do much better.

If you have a good motherboard go to a Phenom II X4.
If not the new FX-6300 and an AM3+ Motherboard would likely be best. (or AM3+ MB and Phenom II)

These are USA prices and availability. For FM2 the A8-5500 is the first "quad core" and is priced so close to the A8-5600K as to make that the best choice if you can.

The A4-5300 is dual core right? Also what's a piledriver? I will take another look online tomorrow as I think I can get the next one up for $15. I am getting my parts from centrecom. Again thankyou for the advice :)
 
Athlon II and Phenom II share AMDs K10 archetecture/ each core is a separate processing unit. Athlons have L1 and L2 Cache, Phenoms L1, L2, and L3. Die is 45 nm.

Bulldozer is the replacement archetecture using a hybrid one module/two cores design. FX-XXXX designation socket AM3+
A module "shares" L1, L2, L3 resources. Die is 32nm. Each module would be designated 2core/2thread.
Bulldozer was late (intel went thru two generations of Die shrink waiting for Bulldozer)
and over hyped. Early performance was disappointing as as it more or less "equaled" Phenom II X4 processors and produce high heat/power usage by Intel standards. Introduced at higher than performance justified pricing.
Piledriver was the first revision to the Bulldozer. Faster, cooler (a little) minor changes/ improvements. Better pricing.
VISHERA is the latest upate on Bulldozer. much better price/performance, still disappointing single thread performance. Better faster less heat.

Fusion is AMDs for putting CPU/GPU on one Die, calling it an APU
Llano was the first generation using traditional one core/one thread K10 archetecture design. Eliminated L3 Cache, basically Athlon II CPU and 5000 series graphics using/shared motherbopard memory. This is why high memory speed is important.
Trinity replaced the K10 cores with Piledriver modules, with minor gains overall.

Trinity A4 and A6 are single module two core APUs. A8 and A10 use 2 module/4 core design. No L3 Cache. 6000 series GPU.
Unless there is a great price advantage buying an FM2 APU Without intending to use the iGPU function is puzzling.
I believe, please confirm, that although HD66XX/65XX Cards are renamed HD 56XX/55XX Cards the HD5670 does not crossfire with Llano APUs
Llano functions in Hybrid Crossfire with HD 6570/6670 graphic cards.

Trinity crossfires with HD 66XX/65XX also.

Hate to report that the A4-5300 does NOT crossfire with the reccomended (on the box no less) Hd6570 discreet gpu card. amds A55 chipset on the mb too
 
now attempted pairing the a4-5300 with an Gigabyte radeon hd 5770 super overclock edt. major framerate increase but no activity or crossfire capability from the 7480D on die.. looks like im saving for an a6 unlocked to accually use crossfire, witch is the only reason i built this system around the APU
 
A4 was not listed as Dual Crossfire capable on box of A6 5400 I purchased,
No APU Dual Crossfires with other than the HD 6450, 6550, 6670 Chipsets.
This is the good and bad of APUs.
When using a discrete card superior to an HD 6670 an FX or Intel build is more sensible.
An FX-6300 or I3 3220 is about the same price.
